Tourism Decline of Chinese Tourists in Pattaya Raises Concerns
Photo courtesy of South China Morning Post Pattaya, once a favourite destination for Chinese tourists, is experiencing a significant drop in visitors from China, with Japan now emerging as their preferred choice. This shift poses a challenge to Thailand’s tourism industry, which heavily relies on Chinese travellers. Yuttasak Supasorn, former Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), has outlined six key reasons behind this trend: Economic Slowdown in China: A sluggish economy and tighter travel restrictions for civil servants have led many Chinese tourists to opt for domestic holidays over international trips. Japan's Affordability: The depreciation of the yen against the yuan by 25% since 2022 makes Japan a more affordable option for budget-conscious travellers, while rising costs in Thailand reduce its appeal. Safety Concerns: Japan's reputation for safety contrasts with Thailand's issues related to crime, scams, and infrastructure challenges. Recent high-profile incidents have further damaged Thailand’s image, affecting its safety ranking globally. Flight Connectivity: Direct flights from China to Japan have returned to pre-pandemic levels, vastly outnumbering those to Thailand. The limited flight options to Thailand, often with longer layovers, provide less convenience. Shopping Opportunities: Japan attracts Chinese tourists with tax-free shopping on luxury items and electronics. Thailand mainly offers attractions focused on beaches and food, with fewer luxury shopping options. Niche Tourism Experiences: Japan caters to the demand for unique and personalised travel experiences, appealing to wealthier Chinese tourists. In contrast, Thailand is often viewed as a less sophisticated destination. Yuttasak emphasises that these are significant market shifts requiring immediate action. For Pattaya and the broader Thai tourism sector, the message is urgent: a strategic overhaul is needed to retain and attract high-value tourists. Without changes, Thailand risks losing its competitive edge in the tourism market. Adapted by ASEAN Now from The Thaiger 2025-06-19 -

Kiwi Pension
Apparently, "Applicants" may need to follow the directions as stipulated upon the "Generic Terms" published by the "Governmental Website", unless there is then a separated documented processes by contacting the "International Team". I have not called them, have you or the OP? It is more than evident within this forum, the established portability of "NZ Superannuation" is extended in entirety to Thailand Based accounts. Again the generic terminology posted for use of residence purpose may or not be be conflated against the universal eligibility of "NZ Citizenship". Fascinating discussion of the dilemna facing the OP and perhaps "myself" and many others by an ever evolving revolving rules and regulations trying to be enforced. Would be good if @gomangosteen, @xylophone, @Patong2 could give further advice regarding formalities regarding their transportation of NZ Super and. -

Non-O Extension Renewal Experience Today @ CW
That is true. But when I did it last year for some reason the IO sent me back down to Bangkok Bank to get a 12 month statement. I am not sure why as I had more than 400k and it was very well seasoned. So today I thought there's no difference to me really if I ask for three months or six months, so played it safe. Probably didn't need to but I have no idea why I was asked for a longer statement last time round. -

Amid Immigration Crackdown, Donald Trump Approval Rating Suffers Worst Polls Yet
I'm not implying anything. I'm saying flat out that any Trump hater to the extent that we see here on the streets and even on this forum are a potential threat to any person who supports America or Donald Trump.- 1
