I just got an air purifier for in my home, amazing that it started at a bit under 100Pm inside my airconditioned house. Now its down to 36, but every time i open the door it goes up a bit.

I am not even in the bad part of BKK, but I was amazed at how high it was in a home. I imagined the aircon would have filtered out more of it.

Probably move the unit from my living-room to the bedroom tonight.

A regular air con unit with normal manufacturer filters really isn't going to do anything to reduce PM2.5 levels in your indoor air.

I would keep the air purifier in whatever room(s) you're staying in, including the bedroom at night.

That was my plan, as I said was shocked at the indoor levels. I expected them to be a lot lower then outdoor.

I usually see some difference indoors, as in, somewhat better. But when it's BAD outside, it's only slightly less bad inside if I'm not running an air purifier.... It's never BAD outside and good inside, without a purifier.

Just raise the Thai acceptable level of PM2.5 from 50 micrograms to 100 micrograms and problems solved instantly.

Don't worry that the WHO acceptable upper reading for PM2.5 is 25 micrograms because:

THAI SMOG IS DIFFERENT!!

You foreigners don't understand THAI SMOG.

A resignation?

It is not his problem. A global response is required - one city, or province, or country can do nothing.

Will we see it in my lifetime ? My childrens ? 555

My grandchildren - what grandchildren ?

You got a good point: That's exactly what they want you to believe !!!

[It's wrong but as long as you believe it you will agree to any stupid legislation "they" come up with.]

It's a global agenda ... and it's not good for you !

PS:

Why would somebody spray Barium Strontium and Aluminium in the Air [Aerosol spraying]

and then complain about Smog ???

They do it all the time and anybody who wants to see simply needs to look into the sky.

Or why does suddenly everybody want to make Diesel cars illegal but does not talk about cruise ships that

produce a Million times more "fine dust particles" ? [If anybody would even know what it actually is]

Why does nobody have the brilliant idea to tie some airplanes to high buildings and have them blow the smog or of the city? It might be as effective as tie boats to bridges and use the propellers to get rid of flooding. ????????

What just happened? Someone in a relatively powerful position admitted that they did not know what to do? That in itself is refreshing.

Almost fell of my seat when I saw that quote!!! It is refreshing.  All he needs to do now is take the next step and ask for help from leading authorities around the world who deal with such circumstances. Maybe that is a bridge too far...baby steps ????????????????

All you have to do Gov, is to Google  " Pollution and its main causes  "

This will give you the root causes of your Pollution problem, and then all you have to do is to deploy methods that are well proven to work, and you will see a decrease in the pollution.

Even you should be able to get things in motion with all the power the BMA has at its finger tips.

Easy really !

Enacting meaningful solutions on this sort of stuff are above the governor's pay grade. Would have to get those shadowy figures that run Thailand's plutocracy to OK anything like this and it does not align with their interests/priorities. We might see a little half-hearted window dressing but nothing that'll have much impact.

cloud seeding and fines and imprisonment for fire lighters. People seem too easily persuaded that its diesel trucks to blame. Yeh they pollute but they are on the road everyday yet its seasonally at its worst and why? For those that dont get out to the country areas they need to go look at the forest fires and sugarcane burning. This is the reason its a seasonal issue. Happens every year. It just gets worse with population growth, farmers switching to do sugarcane and not rice and loggers, mushroom pickers and so on are getting away with lighting up the forests. The hills i see out my windows in kanchanaburi span hundreds of kilometers and they are ALL on fire. The low night temps make it all the worse...

Agreed. And now maybe someone with some intelligence will respond with some workable solutions since he seems to be indicating a willingness to listen

Hey Aswin!!!   The fact you don't know "everything" is obviously the case, since everything the BMA has been doing thus far has been scientifically useless.

So why did it take you weeks of futile time wasting until now to start asking people who (may) actually know what needs to be done about local air pollution...

Here's two quick tips -- STOP THE BURNING!!!  START SERIOUSLY ENFORCING VEHICLE EMISSIONS!!!

Not by relying on useless police to ticket offenders, which does nothing. But instead, start a vehicle emissions inspection and compliance program in BKK, and require annual or every two year testing and certifications, including any time a vehicle is sold.

Sad that we all seem to realize this and no one in authority has figured it out. But in typical Thai fashion they are only looking at how to solve today's crisis and not worrying about the future. Once the air improves it will be back to doing things the same way they have been forever.

"I don't know what to do."  Well, if you are bankrupt of ideas and have a 'can't do' attitude rather than a 'can do' spirit, resign and let someone else take the reins.  Hopefully someone with the will to take some actions that might initially be unpopular.

I see large trash and brush burning fires day and night-nobody does anything-duh. Public busses would be a good start as well.  Check people’s exhausts, if they don’t pass, take them off the road until they do, and prosecute the inspectors that let cars pass that shouldn’t, car pool lanes, free or reduced public transit...
