Krabi health authorities have taken action against two restaurants in Ao Nang, Krabi for releasing wastewater into a canal that drains into the sea.

Tourists in the area complained about the foul odours coming from the canal. Authorities say it has adversely affected tourism to the popular tourist spot.

Deputy Krabi Governor Somkuan Khan-ngern has responded to the wastewater reports saying, “We will inspect all businesses along the Chak Canal that drains into Ao Nang and punish all who release untreated wastewater.”

That will be more than a few, I guess. And next they should inspect businesses on Phi Phi. It is known for years that large amounts of untreated wastewater get dumped back into the ocean there. It would take a huge investment to get things straight there.

First warning. 10,000 baht fine.

Second warning. 100,000 baht fine, and a further warning, that if we catch you doing this again, your restaurant will be closed permanently.

Third warning. 500,000 baht fine, and closure of the restaurant. You have 10 days to sell off your equipment, then the doors will be padlocked.

If you are serious about the environment, then you do something about it. And if it means nothing, then Prayuth and the local authorities, continue with their ridiculous and meaningless proclamations, and do what they have been doing for the past five years. Nothing. Absolutely nothing to benefit the people.

While i'm usually in favour of the 3 "strikes" and your out train of thought...

Thais will take you to the 3rd strike & bugger off without paying a fine.

1st offence 50,000 baht fine, plus making sure water/waste disposal is routed so as to avoid pollution.

offend again you will be shut down... end of story
