UBON RATCHATHANI, 14th February 2019 (NNT) – The Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) has cooperated with three ministries to organize an activity to help boost Thai children’s intelligence quotient (IQ) in Area Health 10.

The Director-General of the Department of Health, Dr. Panpimol Wipulakorn, presided over the opening of the activity at Sunee Grand Hotel, Ubon Ratchathani province.

The situation of Thai children having lower IQ scores than children in many Asian countries is considered a national problem. The Health Center 10, under the Department of Health, found that only 56.5 percent of children in early childhood had proper development in 2016, but in 2017, 74 percent of children in early childhood had proper development.

The Health Center 10 then cooperated with Area Health 10, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security to organize the Smart Kids R10 project to boost Thai children’s IQ by promoting nutritious food for mothers before giving birth. The nutrients, such as iodine and iron, will affect the children’s brain.

Where's the children?

Perhaps someone out of shot was busy giving them post-birth nutrients of iodine and iron, as pre-2016 they'd missed them.

At least they've recognized the problem and the need to do something about it. A step in the right direction.

True. As long as it filters down the bureaucratic levels and is implemented.

An activity eh, just the one?

That's going to help a lot.

Who pays for these foods if the family can't afford them?

Surely, if these concerned departments are truly concerned, they will arrange state funding.

Sad. Unlike in US where the underclass is addicted to junk food, the poor here will eat a healthy balanced diet. Seems so easy to get a bit of protein and vitamins to them.

As a Clinical Psychologist, I ask, have they really done any longitudinal research by reading the literature and performing any experiments concerning this problem?  Obviously not.  Professional literature is replete with articles concerning this topic.  IQ can change over time but few people realise that IQ tests provide the same answer, i.e. scores, etc., to a great extent, even over a period of one year. The older a person is the more the test scores remain the same.  It has been shown that children can have increased volatility in IQ scores is in childhood but it occurs mostly in adolescence but much depends on the environment in which they were raised.

Could go on but the pundits know better than to listen to read or such details as it may cause them to develop headaches, etc.

The LAST thing the Thai Powers That Be want is for the populace to become Awakened and intelligent. Lack of perceptiveness and ability to think critically and independently is the single greatest sustaining force for the whole power structure of Thailand.

'Keep the peasants ignorant, stupid and servile - that way we can rule, unchallenged' - that is the tacit mantra of the Controllers (backed up by tanks, guns and bombs).

Not a new philosophy.

"it is also in the interest of a tyrant to make his subjects poor so that he may be able to be able to afford the cost of a bodyguard, while the people are so occupied with their daily tasks that they have no time for plotting". Aristotle.

Years ago a minister summoned parents to produce "quality babies". I'm surprised they did not heed the call.

Maybe the parents were realistic?

I honestly doubt that will be the case... unless people higher up really want it and see to it that it's implemented.

Having a higher IQ when the education system is still so poor is useless. Until the elites realise that there is value in having inquiring minds and stop using the education system as a propaganda tool to keep the pollute dumb, there is no point.

All classes eat junk food in the USA.  Look at cheeseburger Trump.

Get out of here with your intelligent jibberish. It has no place in this madhouse.

The Thai people have some of the highest IQ's in the world when it comes to concocting innovative schemes to fleece Farangs.

Not really -  it starts with the two oldest tricks in the book - then the farang donates = no fleecing involved

But why would you want one with a sheepskin lining anyway?

As far as science goes:

It is IMPOSSIBLE to increase IQ !!!

Sadly most people talk about IQ without even knowing what it is.

Look at the average IQ scores per country according to the UN  ... you will be seriously surprised.

And there are connections to IQ you are not even allowed to talk about any more these days.
