to be precise, is there really a law that prohibits carrying or using vape in Thailand? this looks more like some police officers scam. selling, importing is another matter

Catching them would include some legwork.....

Those policemen are not better than uniformed sanctioned enforcer. Once you were caught in a crime, the sharks would circle you , smelling blood, and evaluating how much to skim off you. Since they are atheist ‘first responder’ to you, they have the first pick. The rest will pick off slowly as you travel along the system.

Predators.. all of them.  Somebody should enlighten the Frenchwoman of the culture here and advise her to negotiate down the fine ( brown envelope) and settle it there and then. Once it got to the station, more mouths to feed and less room to maneuver.

It IS their country and up to them to make their stupid law according to their culture or tradition. People can always vote with their feet or wallet. Nobody is forcing a gun on you to come.

The bad news being, if you're over 50 they will assume you have 800k in the bank.

It's only a matter of time before the police realise that.

Good point.

I know English is not your first language

Well, I'm sorry, probably it's my Limerick background. If it's not English I'm very proud

I wrote that (despite your mis-quote).... My Apologies, I assumed English was not your first language based on your apparent comprehension (and spelling of Ridiculous) - Perhaps Celtic is your first language in which case your misunderstanding of my comments is understandable.

I too would be proud to be Irish - in fact, part is (my Grandmother was Irish, but I usually try to keep that a secret !!)...  I'd have been less proud to be Irish on the 2nd Feb in the Aviva Stadium, but come 16th March I'll be rooting for Ireland to drop the hammer on Wales at the Millennium Stadium...

(All in good jest....)... :wai:

She was stopped and searched and an attempted extortion of 40,000 baht was made.

Ultimately she was fined 8xx by the courts and deported.

I'm not sure what the reason for deporting her was. Perhaps the legal case took a sufficient length of time to outlast her visa.

Either way....  Are you on the right topic? Ethnocentric views ????? where did that come from?

I'm still waiting for somebody to point out the exact law that prohibits portable liquid heaters. Nicotine is covered by substance acts, but batteries, coils, cotton and baking ingredients?

You make a very good point.

I'm wondering how the courts would see it, if used as a defense. Of course the Vaping machine (or whatever its called) would have to be empty with no nicotine based produce in its reservoir for such a defense to be valid.

800 baht that's how the court sees it!

Unfortunately if she were to appeal the costs would run substantially higher - Principles can cost evidenced by this chain of events - and to what end!!

I got a friend who went holidaying in Australia. Rent a car using his credit card and self drive. Did not know the rules of the area well so ‘triggered ’ many toll charges without the card. End story was he got a huge surprise when his credit card showed the rental agency billed him all the fines being paid .

I suspect he wasn't deported - they were extracting loads of revenue - all legal of course ????

As they do-there is a clear warning in the contract.

Must have gone thru every toll in Australia-and then some..

Having been thru this procedure quite recently with a German friend it was certainly emphasized verbally as well.

Well that's ok then - I know there is no vaping in Thailand - it has been made very clear so the French tourist should have been aware - is that how your thinking works? Not 'extortion' then she broke the law - right?

What part of what was written are you struggling to comprehend? How about we simplify this for the simpletons....

Now I have you, ponder this. Perhaps she carried on like a right upstart and things quickly escalated? Sometimes you need to read between the lines. Hard I guess when you take as gospel all you read here on TV.

Eh?

My intention was the exact opposite.

I suspect that the story told by the poster and to which you responded, is pure fiction.

Pure 'extortion'  taking advantage of a visitor to your country

I would bet my house, wife, 3 dogs and my 2nd kik on the fact you are not Thai. Therefore the point you are trying to make is very poor. In fact I would suggest you are of the same race as I? Hmmm..

Ha ha.. he already left the country by then. The bill came later via his credit card statement.

I am very sure that you entertain the notion that you are more Thai than me.It is a notion that you are most welcome to..

But..I thought you were Irish,eh?

Ah, there was one post pointing to the applicable law:

So the excise tax law. 'goods that have not been taxed'. And the problem then would be the e-juice, as batteries and other electronic gear can be taxed. And to be specific, the nicotine in the e-juice - but that means locally produced e-juices where the tax for the liquid nicotine has been paid would be ok. So is it's Thai liquid should negate all of that, eh?

I have lived here in Thailand for 9 years, and I have never heard that vaping is illegal.  I don't use a vape or even smoke, but now I am glad I don't!  I wonder if tourist receive any notice on entry that vaping is illegal?
