Taking home the jackpot

Here's how one lucky winner spent his new-found fortune.

Brad Duke (34) won a $220 million powerball jackpot in 2005.

He spent the first month of his new life assembling a team of financial advisors. His goal: to use his winnings to become a billionaire. Here's what Duke has done with his money* so far.

* a 'mere' $85 Million (of the 220 Million):

$45 million: Safe, low-risk investments such as municipal bonds

$35 million: Aggressive investments like oil and gas and real estate

$1.3 million: A family foundation

$63,000: A trip to Tahiti with 17 friends

$125,000: Mortgage retired on his 1,400-square-foot house

$18,000: Student-loan repayment

$65,000: New bicycles, including a $12,000 BMC road bike

$14,500: A used black VW Jetta

$12,000: Annual gift to each family member

a few year ago I would have paid off my fathers outsstanding debts, and mortgagas, same for my bro and sister.

bought my mum a saab 900 convertible like she always wanted, and my dad a classic MG convertible.

put they're all doing well now, so :o aside fromt a number of gifts, maybe a second house or two for them all, I'd spend the rest on me. Mass 40,000 thaivisa pissup. in Cambodia (flight and accom paid)

My own establishment somewhere in cambodia, catering to higher end travellers and with regular bungalows space for friends and acqquantances... and get my brother to invest half of anything I get.

Free beer and barsnacks for everyone!

$220m?...I'd give most of it away den surround myself wid expensive whores an' drink meself ta death...

('tuts?...tuts?...wake up tuts...'...'he's dead, Sandra, let's pack up an' beat it before the law arrives...')

What would I do? I'm not telling, but my life, my Mum's, my son's, a couple of hundred dogs' and some friends' lives would be one hel_l of a lot different to how they are now... :o

Wow, he bought a second hand VW Jetta out of his 220 million dollars, better watch out when he hits that billion dollars.

He'll probably buy a brand new Ford.

Hate it when people like this win the lottery, he could live that lifestyle on less than a million, all that money sitting in bank accounts etc... when it could be really used to have some fun and make some people very happy, I notice no charitable donations and he's pretty stingy with the family, I mean his gifts to them probably cost less than 1 years interest on 1% of his money.

Guy could drop dead tommorow.

Anyway if i won it, i would put my 3 kids in Prem Tinsulanonda School then help get November Rain out of the poo poo.. Have Thailands biggest piss up and squander it all away on useless toys and food and wine......dream on. Then i would by the latest Ferrari F430 and install the worlds best car audio....................

Yep, your centre would be high on my list, too, NR. Pay bills, find a hut near a waterfall in the jungle, install big kitchen with freezer, plant a garden, buy some new togs and shoes, a beatup jeep, treats for friends, and maybe do something like adopt a fishing village that needs help. Throw a party on Rambuttri for TVers.

Sadly, I never seem to win. Maybe I need to buy a ticket.

Thanks.. I never won lotto but i will give you these lyrics ..Of course you know them by heart anyway..

November Rain

When I look into your eyes

I can see a love restrained

But darlin' when I hold you

Don't you know I feel the same

'Cause nothin' lasts forever

And we both know hearts can change

And it's hard to hold a candle

In the cold November rain

We've been through this such a long long time

Just tryin' to kill the pain

But lovers always come and lovers always go

An no one's really sure who's lettin' go today

Walking away

If we could take the time to lay it on the line

I could rest my head

Just knowin' that you were mine

All mine

So if you want to love me

then darlin' don't refrain

Or I'll just end up walkin'

In the cold November rain

Do you need some time...on your own

Do you need some time...all alone

Everybody needs some time...on their own

Don't you know you need some time...all alone

I know it's hard to keep an open heart

When even friends seem out to harm you

But if you could heal a broken heart

Wouldn't time be out to charm you

Sometimes I need some time...on my

own Sometimes I need some time...all alone

Everybody needs some time...on their own

Don't you know you need some time...all alone

And when your fears subside

And shadows still remain, ohhh yeahhh

I know that you can love me

When there's no one left to blame

So never mind the darkness

We still can find a way

'Cause nothin' lasts forever

Even cold November rain

Don't ya think that you need somebody

Don't ya think that you need someone

Everybody needs somebody

You're not the only one

You're not the only one

Not my words to you (my missus would castrate me) but Axl's.. Whatever happened to that bloke ??

He looks extremely scary now - a bit like Mick Hucknall with beaded braids....another teenage dream dashed! *sigh* Thanks for the lyrics!! :o
