Woman, 69, drowns after returning from riverside market in Samut Songkram

By The Nation

A 69-year-old woman drowned in front of her house in Samut Songkram's Muang district on Friday after she rowed her boat back from a riverside market, police said.

The body of Pim Simngern was found next to the pillar of a bridge across the Klong Tha Kha canal in Moo 3 village in Tambon Nang Takhian at 3am on Saturday.

Her sister, Chusee Simngern, 60, told police that Pim rowed her boat to riverside market about one kilometre away on Friday and did not return.

Chusee said she returned home at 5pm and found the boat in front of their house but Pim was not there and eggs, bananas, oranges and sandals were on the house pier.

Police coordinated a search team and Pim's body was found about 300 metres from the house.

Police suspect that she might have fallen off the boat while climbing onto the pier.

yes indeed. At 69 years she may have suddenly been taken ill.

Now that's a wild assumption. It amazes me that most boat people don't wear simple flotation vests, at least it would give them a fighting chance of survival. Anyway RIP
