Thai social media went into meltdown after a well known supermarket in Thailand's north-east offered a Pomeranian dog as a prize in a lucky draw.

The shop in Ubon Ratchathani said: "Don't forget! When you shop at......every time you can get a coupon to win this cute doggy. One day only!"

Sanook reported that virtually everyone on social media condemned the store for the inappropriateness of the "prize".

People were concerned that the winner might not really want a dog and it could go to a bad home or someone who didn't know how to look after a dog, said Sanook showing a multitude of comments.

One person said they complained to the store but were given the runaround being handed from one person to another as excuse followed excuse.

Finally on Tuesday the store said they had abandoned the promotion and apologized saying they would be more careful in the future.
