The viscous fan clutch needed a replacement (stuck and sounded like a jet plane on take off). So I found a place that sold them for 1500baht, fair enough (I was prepared to pay 3000). I was also aware that the thermostate have been removed (by watching the temp meter). Opposite this shop was a garage (no surprise) and the mechanic offered me to change the fan thing for 250 baht. Simple job really, but I thought why not.

So I told the guy to put in a new thermostat, didnt ask for the price, and was qouted 600baht for the thermostat. Did he or the shop ripp me off?  Seriously, 600 baht for a water thermostat.

If you are talking about something like this :

1500 baht does sound a lot.

Might be the difference between an original part or a Taiwanese copy.

You didn't mention what the vehicle is. Many new thermostats come installed in a new housing and can be expensive. My Focus was 1500bt.

OEM toyota (not sure what car you have) will set you back over 1,500 THB. So 600 THB is not a bad price.

Yes, something like that. It was 600 baht, the 1500 was for the viscous fan clutch.

Works ok, temp still a bit on the cold side though. Planning to replace it with an 86°-88° thermostat.
