Ok then, I am one of the old-timers around here. Older than most in fact. The feelings being expressed by the older members about not liking what Bedlam has turned into are shared by me as well. Yes, Bedlam is a place for less moderation and more banter. Yes, we do want threads in here that are childish and humorous. What we don't want is for just about every thread in here to be taken over and turned into a childish circus like is being done nowadays. Threads that are started and meant to be humorous can stay that way. Other threads that are started and meant to be serious need to be left alone by the take-over brigade. There is a distinct group of people responsible for this too.

There hasn't been much hijacking over the past couple of days...

Easy solution, create 3 sub-forums

1) The Brawny sub-forum - for strong and powerful, mainly political threads

2) The Barmy sub forum - for jovial non-sensical threads

3) The Brainy sub-forum - For intelligent, grown up debate

Oh wait a minute, this is Bedlam innit, so scrap sub-forum 3, it won't be used.

The next thing about Bedlam is that it's un-moderated - to an extent...

Un-moderated is not really an accurate description, 'loosely' moderated is probably more accurate. All the rules of the main forums still apply here, but we 'turn a blind eye' to stuff that is borderline, and we don't really enforce the 'must be thai related' rule either.

But saying that, we will still stamp down on questionable material (porn, hacks, HRH discussion, moderation discussion and un-necessary attacks on fellow members etc)

why do the old brigade think they have right to dictate what goes down in bedlam.?

i mean,

who do they think they are,? some powerful group of god'ly being's that have a right to rule on the content that is discussed in bedlam?

do they think they are better than newer members that contribute to bedlam?

they had there clique in there time, and now they cry, because a newer fresher more fun orientated group of people contribute.

i mean look at some of the threads that are raised in bedlam.

"THE LAST WORD", where members write absolute <deleted>.

i have no problem with this, as many posters are having a good giggle and so they should, as its a forum where members can be stupid and have a laugh.

the big problem lye's with the few members who think they are above the average punter that just wants to contribute to bedlam and have some fun, without fear of being flushed down the shitter by a mod with no sense of humour.

let bedlam be free and all punters have there fun.

the naysayers should stick to there rigid, funless comments in some other part of thai visa, as they spoil the party with there high and mighty views on the average poster that wants to have a laugh.

sorry lamphun but i beg to disagree,

i was very happy before some one started to complain about the new blood comming into bedlam, so im only voicing my opinion and as this is a democracy.

we must realise that humour is in the mind of the reader and i'll give you an example.

now if i told you that i find you as humourous as a, " blow fly around a soi dogs arse," you might think that is unhumourous.

but someone else might be sitting behind there computer pissing themselves laughing.

There has been a fair bit of discussion aboout Bedlam over the past 48 hours. I thought it would be a good idea to have a place where people could come and talk about what the sub-forum means to them, what they expect

Can I go first? Good! I guess the first thing about Bedlam is that posts don't have to be Thai related. You don't come here looking to find hotels or where to, but a motorbike in Phuket. This means you can talk about anything. But, you can't really talk about anything,

as forum rules apply to dicussions about --------------------, etc. I understand.

The next thing about Bedlam is that it's un-moderated -

to an extent - and I guess this has led to the current debate -

as there are many posts that don't really belong here - the farang pub section would be a more appropriate place for a lot of the stuff.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to have Bedlam Mods

- these people would just make sure that there is a reason for posting in Bedlam. When it was decided to have Bedlam there were not as many members as there are now and all these people do need a little guidance. I think that Bronco mentioned that Bedlam was going to be re-jigged and I hope that they speak to the people that use it.

Another aspect of Bedlam that I like is that due to the fact that most people here have been posting on TV for a while they are not so quick to take offence.

I like that if I call someone an offensive name they won't immediatly take it to heart

and actually get wound up by it. And I feel that people need to be here a while, and get to know each other before they can get to this point.

I know that some people hark back to the good old days of Bedlam and say it's not what it was. Well, when I first qualified for Bedlam I was very excited as I approached 500 and when I actually got here I was dissapointed about what I found. Almost every post on the first page was about American politics or Iraq. I think that the postings in Bedlam are much more diverse than they were. Posters are still free to post about what they want - if you want to talk about politics then open a topic.

I hope I have been posting here for people to know I am not having a go at anyone by posting this. If I have a problem about something that someone says then I'll them - if you believe that Bedlam is not as good as it used to be, then that's your perogative!

Also, please forgive me if you think this is of a rant, but I do enjoy the freedoms of Bedlam and I hope it shows in my posting this topic!

Why subforums et al? Get over the look at me need that's evident in a - thank god - very few posters here. You're simply showing your insecurity.

Just don't hijack threads that any goon can figure should be left as intended. If you can't figure which threads those are, then shutup and growup.

I must agree, Terry loves imposing himself on threads.
