Can we claim a trip for Sinkers?

Not yet. Jury is out as to whether Sinkers will be Stinkers as number one ruck.

I am looking forward to Buddy returning from lala land. Hopefully he has been given some good drugs and will kick a further 5 metres.

Tippet was taking some marks and kicking goals late season , so i have almost forgiven him. He should be no more than 30% in the ruck

Sinclair will be good for your boys, don't worry.

I would've rather given you Lycett.

He's not just a tap ruckman, he's more of a foward/ruckman rather than a ruckman/forward

if that makes any sense.

Then again, he was always behind Nic Nat so will be good to see what he's like as the number 1 banana.

An interesting take on next years fixtures.

Sorry famerjo, I reckon Port will make it into next years 8 (along with Geelong and Collingwwod)

at Norths expense.

http://www.watoday.com.au/afl/afl-news/afl-fixture-release-2016-our-formula-finds-the-real-winners-and-losers-20151030-gkmur1.html

I'm not sure about Collingwood. They do have Travis Cloke to let themselves down.

Based on that Table in the article, I'm even keener to put an imaginary $100 on Gold Coast making the top 4.

Nice to see Sydney getting a mid range easy draw. They deserve it. coffee1.gif

Buckley will be under enormous pressure if Collingwood don't make finals.

You don't want to get into trouble betting BookMan, so get chimpy to place the bet.

Last time I let Chimpy use a betting account he went a bit crazy. He doesn't care what he bets on, as long as he gets that rush-of-a-win feeling. His concept of money isn't the best really. Surprising given his many high level meetings he has had with AFL boffins. He drained the account down to zero after taking the Saints to make Top 8

Anyway, I have gotten hold of Chooka's bank account details and passed them onto Chimpy.. so problem solved really.

Fremantle forward Hayden Ballantyne has won a late call-up to the 22-man Virgin Australia International Rules squad to contest the one-off Test against Ireland, to be played at Croke Park in Dublin on Saturday 21 November.

Mundy and Lyon heading to Ireland

The AFL said on Monday that Ballantyne will replace Port Adelaide’s Chad Wingard, who has a knee complaint and is being rested ahead of his club’s pre-season campaign.

Ballantyne was an All Australian in 2014 and was confirmed as Wingard’s replacement after a phone hook-up involving the selection panel.

Australia regained the Cormac Macanallen Trophy with victory in last November's Test on home soil in Perth and has again named a squad comprised entirely of All Australian players, under the direction of leading coaches Alastair Clarkson, Ross Lyon and Chris Scott.

The team will initially travel to New York in the second week of November for a training camp, including a practice match against a US representative GAA team, before arriving in Dublin in the week of the 21 November match.

The 2015 Virgin Australia International Rules squad is: Hayden Ballantyne (Fremantle), Eddie Betts (Adelaide Crows), Grant Birchall(Hawthorn), Luke Bruest (Hawthorn), Patrick Dangerfield (Geelong Cats), Dustin Fletcher (Essendon), Andrew Gaff (West Coast), Brendon Goddard (Essendon), Robbie Gray (Port Adelaide), Dyson Heppell (Essendon), Luke Hodge (Hawthorn), Sam Mitchell (Hawthorn), Leigh Montagna (St Kilda), David Mundy (Fremantle), Robert Murphy (Western Bulldogs),Nick Riewoldt (St Kilda), Tom Rockliff (Brisbane Lions), Jarryd Roughead (Hawthorn), Nick Smith (Sydney Swans), Jake Stringer (Western Bulldogs), Harry Taylor (Geelong Cats), Easton Wood (Western Bulldogs).

I guess it isn't as fun when the grog and drugs are pulled out from under you...

Young Sun Boston retires after losing passion to play

GOLD Coast utility Andrew Boston has retired after losing the passion to play at the highest level.

The 21-year-old informed the Suns of his intention to leave late last week, and executed a formal release from his 2016 contract on Monday.

Boston, a Gold Coast product, signed a one-year extension in July, but said he had lost the motivation for an AFL career and instead would play local football.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-11-02/young-sun-boston-retires-after-losing-passion-to-play

21 and only offered a 1 year contract, how much coin would he have been on?

I thought he played some pretty good footy in the games i saw.But of course with their a grade midfield coming back he would be doing a lot of hard training and not playing which can take its toll.

He can now go back to local footy, have a life and probably get 2k a game without the pressure.

And maybe re enter the afl when more mature.

I don't think i would like to play under Rocket.

Collingwood to fight AFL taxes and revenue sharing model

COLLINGWOOD has accused the AFL of swallowing up club profits, ready to battle the league on its controversial wealth taxes and revenue sharing model.

Pies chief executive Gary Pert told a members forum on Thursday night the club would not continue to lay down over the AFL’s financial models.

The club yearly declares vast profits but its rivals are swimming in debts while the AFL grows its future fund with overall profits.

Pert said the Pies would not continue to hand over taxes which include $500,000 a year in revenue taxes.

“We are in a good strong financial position. In the last 10 year when the AFL has tried to convince us to give money to other clubs, AFL clubs have got themselves into $60 million of debt.

“Add gaming money and it’s closer to $100 million of debt. In the same 10-year period the AFL has made an $80 million cash surplus so there is enough money to go around but the AFL is not distributing it.

When you look at the mathematics we quite clearly say we shouldn’t as a long-term solution be giving that money to the AFL or other clubs.

“All the AFL clubs need to be financially resilient and profitable and we will continue to push that.”

Clubs including Collingwood and Hawthorn have already pushed for a total overhaul of the AFL’s taxation model during a review next year.

The league declared a $12.5 million profit last year at a time only six of 18 clubs made a profit without financial handouts.

The league has secured a record $2.508 billion TV deal which will have every stakeholder putting their hand out for a piece of the pie.

Collingwood will again declare a profit but despite leading AFL membership figures dropped from 2014’s total of 79,347 to 75,037 members, a drop of over 4000.

Pert on Thursday took the highly unusual step of criticising 14,000 fans who did not re-sign, saying they went against Collingwood ideals.

“For the first time in a long time we went backwards (in membership) last year. We have had a tough couple of years but 14,000 members said I don’t want to sign up again,’’ Pert said.

“They said, ‘I am not happy with the way we are playing’, or “We are losing too many players”, or “I don’t think we will play in a premiership”.

“I know most of you in the room are shaking your heads but 14,000 members said this, which means we put on 10,000 new member.

“To me that is un-Collingwood. That feedback — that I will jump back on board when I am happy how things are going — it eats at the DNA of the people in this room.”

Collingwood and Hawthorn need to understand that there is no compertion without the other 14 or so clubs, they could break away and play themselves every week up until the grand final...

Its also true that quite a few clubs are run poorly, what to do what to do, private ownership isn't yet viable here, yet in the US owners make sure they run there clubs well and all play ball to keep the cash coming in in a reasonable way for the good of all.

Don't know if a wealth tax is the way to go, maybe the clubs can keep there membership money this would get them working somewhat harder to attract members as for TV and gate money thats where it can be spread around more fairly.

As I've said a million times here until the Tinker league come up with a way to create more winners in a season money will always remain an issue, don't have to look far other codes to look at for that.

Why do we need to create more winners? Sponsorship $$$$, more members, greater interest all round which equates to TV viewing and gate recites....Tinker league really arnt that smart, they have changed the structure of what we once knew into full national comp, its not 12 VFL clubs and 1975 anymore.

1991 finals went from 5 teams to 6 teams. Then in 1994 to the current 8 team format. 10 team finals?

8 finalists is a bit of a joke in the system we have bookie....what i rather see is some sort of conference system, the US system does it well....Aleague adopted the FA cup this year was the second one played ...might add won by my team...the Victory, over 600 Aussie clubs took part in it, Victory took....the champions trophy for finishing first, then the premiership cup and now the FA cup all in one year...the point is 10 Aleague clubs have 3 tropys to play for the AFL's 18 clubs have 1.

Because Victory won the premiership they are allegeable to play Asian champions league along with at least one other Aussie club...now thats going to countries like Japan and China and playing in front of big crowds and all over tv in those countries, Sydney Wanderers won the Asian Championship i think last year and it was a big deal that eventually took them to a tournament were winners of Sth America, Europe and African champions league played off for the "best in the world, won by Real Madrid i think...

$$$ keep rolling into Victory as with all big clubs, there becoming a big brand name, conference system does the same thing, divisional champion, play off spot, conference champion then in our case would be a premiership....winners winners and $$$ coming in.

Well guys its that time of the football world where its quite as a mouse, draft day is almost here and we know jack shit about the kids coming through so the age took it upon itself to come up with the list of the top picks of each position starting at 80.

I will only mention the ones of note or surprises....

79-James Hird...now that was a surprise apparently Chris Grant was taken at 105 by the Bulldogs which was even a bigger surprise.

71-Brian Lake--Dogs and Hawks just retired.

The good old Age is going to stretch this out over 8 days so stay tuned.

We all remember when WCE came in with those famous late draft picks that picked up some fantastic players...so long ago my aged brain can't recall there names who went on to play mega games and stared week in week out, the talk over in the east was the weagles hid these kids out of the big vic's eyes....way up in some league only an indigenous Australian would have known about.

Best ever picks taken from 70 to 61, the countdown continues.

70-Paul Williams, Woods 306 games, yep a very good player indeed.

68-Russell Robertson, Dees 228 games, high flying specialist hand arms like an octopus, still pissed off how Bailey cut him, still pissed off how Bailey destroyed my club in 2 seasons.

67-Byron Pickett, North 204 games.

64-Nick Malceski, swans/GC still playing and at 192 games only just edged out Dees Bruce 234 games who i can vouch for was a top player, but I'm happy with Malceski taking the honours.

61-Mathew Stokes, Cats 189 games.

So far Hird and Williams at such late picks amazes me....

Malceski turned into a good player for the swans down back but i reckon #64 pick wasn't too out of the ordinary.

Rumour has it Collingwood was keen to poach him when they saw this photo:

Looks like Buddy Ga Ga and King Hit Heeney are both okay...

Lance Franklin and Isaac Heeney ready for Sydney’s pre-season

SYDNEY says star forward Lance Franklin and king-hit victim Isaac Heeney will be available to start the Swans’ pre-season after overcoming serious setbacks.

Heeney had surgery on a broken jaw after being punched while entering a taxi in Hong Kong. He needed four plates and 16 screws to repair the damage.

And Franklin is described as making a slow but steady recovery from his mental health battle, having been forced at one stage to ward off retirement rumours.

Heeney, 19, who labelled his attackers “cowardly”, would have missed as many as three weeks had he suffered the same injury during the season.

He was with a group of a dozen Sydney players in Hong Kong, and Sydney football manager Tom Harley on Tuesday described him as an “innocent victim”.

After a brilliant debut season he will return to training on November 23 and will be eased back into competitive work.

Franklin, 28, has not played since early September, but is mentally prepared for an arduous pre-season starting on December 1.

Harley said Franklin, who has seven years remaining on his $10 million deal, was ready to get back to work.

“He has had a good break physically,” he said. “He has been working through some mental challenges and he’s been really diligent with that.

“He has been coming into the club and training with the boys when he can. He is overseas at the moment with Jesinta (Campbell) and he will front up on day one with no physical issues.

“(Training) is what he loves. He talks very openly about that and one of the upsides of him finishing early is he hasn’t had any wear and tear on his body or surgery.”

Draft news....

Dees like Parish (midfielder) but state clearly they haven't decided on anyone say there going for best available, though a forward is high on there list, picks 3 and 7

Bombers at 4 and 5 looking for same as Dees, mids and forwards, 196 cm Weideman forward likely there.

Blues 1st Weiterging a ready made key defender virtually sealed.

Lions pick 2, tall forward Schache looks likely to land there being on the look out for this type for several years.

After pick 5 its a raffle, interesting the "better" clubs did all there bargaining during trade week....does that mean there's nothing much coming on over the next 2 years?
