DDPM: Most accidents during Songkran festival caused by drunk driving

 

   

BANGKOK, 15 April 2019 (NNT) - Assistant to Tourism and Sports Minister, Lieutenant Commander Worawit Techasuphakoon, disclosed that the Tourism Authority of Thailand estimated that there will be more than 540,000 visitors to Thailand, while the number of Thai tourists is expected to reach three million. They are expected to generate a cash flow of over 20 billion baht, 10 billion baht from Thai tourists and another 10 billion baht from foreign visitors.

 

Tourism and Sports Minister Weerasak Kowsurat has instructed agencies under the Ministry to cooperate with police, military officers and the public to ensure safety for both Thai and foreign tourists.

 

The Road Accident Prevention and Reduction Center during Songkran Festival 2019, Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), reported that there were 501 road accidents on April 12, 2019.

 

Drunk driving caused 35.13 percent of the accidents, followed by speeding at 29.94 percent and motorcycles were involved in 78.71 percent of the accidents. Most accidents occurred during 4.01 p.m. - 8 p.m.

Most accidents every day of the year are caused by drunk driving.

Nobody gives a rats a++e about drink driving laws, as most times when stopped by police for drunk driving, a brown envelope stuffed with cash makes the offence disappear.

Guy I know in Udon, used to regularly drive home drunk from the city centre. Then the police started checking vehicles leaving the city centre at night.

Why? Because the fee to carry on driving home and make the positive breath test 'go away' is 10,000 Baht.

 

Someone else in Udon who genuinely doesn't drink, was driving home his drunk wife and their drunk friend.

It took the police three attempts to try and get him to produce a positive result before allowing him to go. The police are convinced any ferang they stop driving at night is going to be drunk.

By not having a police force made to do the job they're getting paid for.

 

If they were forced to do their job, then respect for the law would increase dramatically. Sadly not out of any moral respect, but because the population would realise they would be caught and prosecuted.

Get with it! It's caused by a lack of proper amulets.

 

The one powered by two AA batteries will fend off 99% of household germs traffic accidents. You will end up more calmer karma.

 

I understand there's a solar-powered amulet being developed, but so far tests have proved inconclusive regarding it's night-time drink-driving resistance. However, volunteers are still keen to undergo near death real life testing.

All a load,

Accidents are caused by, selfish,  stupid people.

sober or drunk all day long,  24/7 in Thailand.

65 a day is the well balanced way,  for Thailand. 

Shameful people in charge, they all care not.

as they drive home in there BMW, Merc's  and so on. 

Wash rinse, wash rinse, wash rinse, and repeat cycle.
