Didn't a British man recently find a mobile intending to find its owner, and got about 10 days in detention for doing so.

Ah. But he wasn't Chinese. The Thai authorities are prostituting themselves. Shameful.

So I guess I missed some of the information where does it say he was

a tourist apart from the OP Thailand has many Chinese living here

One thing is for sure, finders keepers losers weepers, doesn't apply in Thailand. If you find something left behind don't keep it.

don't keep it, just ignore it and let the next one (foreigner) get in trouble, if a Thai then they will keep it

well he could be Thai Chinese how do we know

It will be interesting when the Chinese are caught gambling or drug taking. Perhaps both of these will be made legal in LOS to accommodate the Chinese!

So he wanted to return it to return it.

Why then did he hide it under the hat after picking up?

It may have been to protect it from Chiang Mai's well known air - not unlike the air he is used to in his home country ... :whistling:

Well the quality tourists and the defenetly unqualified police help each other to mistreat the law and justice.....

Same-same but different, he was not from China, he was British...:whistling:

It is very clear that he is not hiding it, he just gives it extra protection in order not to damage before returning the camera to the owner

I'm sure, you're from the Netherlands, there they doing the same, ha, ha, ha, die Kees.

The chap who found the phone and lost his deads was in prison.he had a go fund page too.will the Chinese man be doing the same I wonder.i know it cost alot to get him out of prison.i wait and see

the Thai authorities are terrified of the Chinese who regard the Thai as distant but feral relatives.

So, one law for the Chinese and another for the Brits and other farangs/foreigners.

Give that Chinese man a plate of Khao Niaow Ma Muang (Mango with Sticky Rice) to lure him to come back again. He is definitely a valued customer of TAT.

According to reports in Thai media, it doesn’t appear the Chinese man was charged with theft.

Those double standards again, Thailand and it's flexible laws !!!!

Chinese you get a pass... all others get nicked!

So that Thais cannot accused him of theft being that he has no intention of stealing at all. He just wanted to give the camera to the tour guide who can speak thai to give to the relevant authority(sarcasm)

Gulf of Thailand no problem, ‘mai Pen Rai’, f f raw s already !

The lazy fat arse lady should have the decency of doing it the Malaysian way.... digging a hole in the ground surrounded by bushes to do her urgent business. Then cover it up with sand. Which swimmer would want to get turd in their face while out in the water ? Worse. He might even blamed it on the Chinese tourists in Phuket.

Thai Chinese would not go to the wat by public transport or chartered bus. He would drive. Moreover, if he is thai chinese, there would be no public confrontation with the police. Face saving issue.

British and other white men are put to a certain standard of behaviors which do not apply to those uncouth Chinese who barely came out of the woodwork into the modern world.  Caucasian should not be compared to those from third world countries .

Lots of these professional or non professional enough Chinese coming to Thailand just to heist something.

Percentage of that is small given the huge numbers coming to Thailand.

Chinese man went a whole 5 minutes without gobbing on the floor incredible.

Not really as they are getting caught quite often now. They have many of organized gangs roaming around as well as single common thieves, and for any race visiting it is probably in a lower percent than that of the Chinese.
