As an American my brain is adjusting to kmpl (vs mpg). Couple questions about this:

  1. I see that a Honda Click has a 3.8L gas tank and does about 20kmpl. So for my 140km trip I should plan on 2, maybe 3 fillups right? Are gas stations visible from the freeway (I'm headed between BKK and Pattaya) or should I put specific stations into my route beforehand?
  2. Do Thai gas stations take credit/debit at the pump or will I need to brush up my Thai in order to go inside and say "300 baht on #7" ?

Cant tell you about number 1

Number 2 they take cash only and you pull up right to the pump you want and open the gastank and THEY will fill it up FOR you. Then you pay the guy and he will run off and come back with your change.

"Them tung" means full tank. So pull up to the pump you want and tell them "95 them tung krup" or whatever fuel you want.

And since your american, like me, FYI thais talk about "so-hol" and "benzine". So-hol is like 10% ethanol, and benzine is 100% gasoline. You can use either, so-hol is slightly cheaper.

Nonsense, petrol stations accept cards also.

"95 them tung krup"

Don't take Thai lessons from that bloke either unless he explains how to pronounce his version properly.

Much easier to indicate with a B100 note, or whatever, what you want.

Your maths is correct.

You can pay with your card but at around B30 per litre the amounts for that bike's fill-up will be very small.

By the way, you won't be on what you refer to as a "freeway" on that moped, you'll be on normal roads and filling stations are very easily seen.

????

Ask literally any Thai person how to get across that you want to fill your tank up with 95 octane fuel and they will quite literally tell you to say what i just typed.

Waving a 100 baht note at a pump and gesticulating like a moron what you want is rather stupid.

"95 them tung krup"

"Ask, literally, any Thai"?   If you say so.  Hahahaha...!

"Waving a 100 baht note at a pump and gesticulating like a moron what you want is rather stupid".

"Gesticulating like a moron"?   That was your choice of words but my money would be on showing some cash and indicating what you wanted working better than your "Thai" phrase if said the way a non-Thai speaker would interpret it from your post!

Seriously though OP, much better that you take a blind guess at how much fuel you need and just wave some cash at the pump attendant and make some grunting sounds.
