:o Hi, I am a newbie on Thai Visa looking for some wisdom sharing!

I will be arriving in Thailand on th April this year and going on to Chiang Mai to reunite with my fiancé who lives in Chiang Mai.

I like Chiang Mai and have decided thats where we will settle down. We will be looking at blocks of land in Chiang Mai and especially in the sansai or surrounding areas. My fiancé has seen some good land out that way that has good mountain views and open space. Irrespective of whether or not we find a block of land that suites, I will require a good solicitor that knows his stuff; one that speaks English that can be understood.

Questions:

Has anyone built or purchased land and house out that way or close by? if so,

Who was your solicitor?

If you haven't built, but still know of a good legal eagle in the Chiang Mai are that speaks good English; can you give me their/his/her details?

Failing all that, some constructive wisdom on this subject?

Just the usual I guess.. check the subforum that deals with real estate. I don't think there's anything in particular related to Chiang Mai that you should know about, just check around and ask about any issues like flooding, etc.

Lawyer:

I would personally highly recommend: Ajarn Akarawath Intanant. He specialises in both local and international law, having graduated with Masters or above from both local and foreign universities, (including in the USA, Harvard, Howard and the American Uinversity.)

Tel & Fax 053 246 493 Mobile 081 568 6865.

His address is 128/58 Palmsprings Village, Mahidol Road, Muang, Chiang Mai 50000.

Email: akarawath(at)sanook.com.

He is a Lawyer, a Judge and a senior lecturer in Law. (His wife is also a Judge.) Not cheap, but in my personal experience, by far the very best in Chiang Mai. He speaks very good English and has helped several people I know out of very sticky problems, including land purchase etc..
