Popular Post webfact
Trump tax returns from 1985 to 1994 show $1 billion in losses - New York Times U.S. President Donald Trump attends an event to celebrate the first anniversary of first lady Melania Trump's “Be Best” initiative in the Rose Garden at the White House in Washington, U.S., May 7, 2019. REUTERS/Jonathan Ernst WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump's businesses lost a total of more than $1 billion from 1985 to 1994, according to the New York Times, which said it obtained printouts from Trump's official Internal Revenue Service tax transcripts. The newspaper said Trump posted losses in excess of $250 million in both 1990 and 1991, which appeared to be more than double any other individual U.S. taxpayer in an annual IRS sampling of high-income earners. Trump lost so much money that he was able to avoid paying income taxes for eight of the 10 years, the Times said. Over the 10 years, Trump's core businesses, including casinos, hotels and apartment buildings, lost $1.17 billion, according to the newspaper. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The Times quoted a lawyer for the president, Charles Harder, as saying the tax information was "highly inaccurate." Trump, a real estate magnate who turned over the running of his businesses to his sons after his election in 2016, touted his business acumen and negotiating skills on the campaign trail. Trump broke with a decades-old precedent by refusing to release his tax returns as a presidential candidate in 2016 or since being elected, saying he could not do so while his taxes were being audited. On Monday, U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin refused a request by the Democratic chairman of the House of Representatives Ways and Means Committee for Trump's tax returns. Democrats want Trump's tax data as part of their investigations of possible conflicts of interest posed by his continued ownership of extensive business interests, even as he serves as president. Popular Post ThreeEyedRaven
Marvelous performance. Maybe the reason for not showing us the more recent ones is less to be with him not being as rich as he claims, and more to do with not wanting us to know how much more he has lost. The super businessman perception would crash and burn if such losses have been ongoing. 6 2

Popular Post TopDeadSenter
This has descended into pure comedy. For 3 years it's been bash bash moan whine and more bash. They said we KNOW Trump was avoiding taxes. And now it has been shown he did not avoid taxes, he in fact lost a whole heap of money. The exact 180 degree opposite of what the haters had been claiming. And yep, you know it. They will now do the bash, whine and moan because he lost money. There is just no pleasing some people. This is the 2nd nothing burger in a month after the Russia collusion hoax deflated more spectacularly than the Hindenburg. I hope Trump takes his this chance to get his ducks in a row so when he leaves office he can swell his bank accounts. I really appreciate his sacrifice taking time away from the cut and thrust of international business to Make America Great Again. If he can trouser a few dollars in the meantime so much the better. Not as if the haters are going to ask for any more tax returns! 5 5 5

Popular Post helpisgood
If he was still alive, maybe we should have voted for Fred Trump instead of his son, Donald. Oh yeah, there's that KKK arrest thing that Fred was reported to have gotten involved with, so that may be hard to explain away. Oh, well. I think it's turning out that Tiffany may be the "smart one" after all. Edited May 8, 2019 by helpisgood typos 2 1

Popular Post Silurian
Looks like the con man who couldn't make a dime from 1985 to 1994 doesn't like to be conned himself. Trump campaign issues statement condemning deceptive fundraising organizations Inside a top Trump adviser's fundraising mirage Quote A political organization run by David Bossie, President Trump's former deputy campaign manager, has raised millions of dollars by saying it's supporting Trump-aligned conservative candidates — but has spent only a tiny fraction of that money supporting candidates. mtls2005
Off-setting gains with losses is hardly a novel action. The question might be: how aggressive was trump in overstating losses? For a start, someone (trump, mnuchin, mulvanney) needs to clarify which year's returns are still under audit. And then release those which have completed audit as was promised. I'm sure there's nothing to hide.

Popular Post gk10002000
Probably a bit different but I recall something about small business S or C corporations can not remain their status if they lose money for 3 or 4 consecutive years. No doubt Trump's stuff is different? But it begs the question, if he somehow did lose so much money, then what was he living on? What money was he spending? 2 1
