Last Will and Testament listing in exchange for visa favour?

Featured Replies

I would like some clarification if you are able to help around securing visa with insufficient funds...

My father, Aussie expat, recently died in Thailand. He lost a lot of his money to Thai wives', but his Last Will and Testament has listed his male mate (long term associate only) as beneficiary.  I was told that this is a common occurrence in Thailand?  Being made beneficiary in exchange for helping "fix" his visa when funds were very low.

This Will was written 10 years ago and significant funds have re accumulated, additionally - many large monetary loans have been made out of estate to this beneficiary...so any "loan" made for visa fixing will have more than comfortably been repaid.

Wills are very black and white, I understand that, but my question is around the securing the visa in exchange for inheriting the estate at death - is this common practice?

Maybe that is the critical section...

No such thing, your dad has been misled to the fact that there's no such thing as bequeathing  inheritance for vis favores, having said that, Thai laws dictate that the person name on the will is the ultimate beneficiary and no court of law will change this... should there be other mitigating issues you think that will help you for the inheritance, bet will be to contact a lawyer, PM me if you need one...
