rooster59
Biometrics system to be used to scan travellers tewit kemtong PHUKET, 10 May 2019 (NNT) - The biometrics system, a machine for facial and fingerprint identification, is being introduced to enhance immigration checkpoints nationwide. Biometrics is a device used worldwide to scan persons coming into or going out of the country on land, sea and air, esepcially regarding suspected facelifted transnational criminals and passport forgery. Pol. Lt. Gen. Tinaphat Phumarin, the commander of the National Police’s Quartermaster Division in capacity as head of the Biometrics Project led a delegation of relevant agencies to Phuket airport’s immigration unit to see the biometrics device which is replacing an old individual scanning system. The biometrics device can scan any facelifted suspects and fingerprints which cannot be changed, thus raising the confidence of travelers in the airport’s safety measures. The installation of the biometrics device has been 70% completed and the device which was earlier scheduled to be operable on May 2 and extended for a month, is to be 100% operable on July 1. Failing to meet such schedule, the firm which is installing the device will be liable to more than four million baht in fine daily. With a 2.1 billion baht budget, the project is designed to install 2,000 biometrics devices at 170 spots on land, sea and air throughout the country. In Phuket, the biometric devices will be installed at the airport, piers, immigration units and provincial police investigating office. A total of 76 biometric devices will be installed at Phuket airport’s arrival terminal and international departure terminal. Thailand is the fifth ASEAN state which has applied the biometric system. -- © Copyright nnt 2019-05-11 Follow Thaivisa on LINE for breaking Thailand news and visa info

Might let others beta test that system first. On the plus side, planting Burmese fingerprints will be a whole lot easier.

Looks as if they will be putting the little machines in public to monitor people like China does. I see this as a sad time of Thailand truly turning to having no freedom from an iron fisted military only loving the elite all under the BS thing of National Security. Communism practices are not a way for free and democratic freedoms. It is strangulation. 6

Wonder who got the contract? That said, pretty sure this type (fingerprint) is used pretty much everywhere now. Think I've used it in HKG, SIN recently, and of course, at a Global Entry kiosk in the U.S.

Lupatria
In a next step the cameras of every 7/11 will be attached to the system. I think the wrist band idea for "travellers" would have been cheaper.

Popular Post connda
All foreigners are criminals until shown otherwise by biometrics, and then all biometrically cleared foreigners are potential criminals simply biding their time as they plan their crimes. 2

I can't speak for what China has, or has not, but Thai Immigration have been using facial recognition ‘on-the-streets’ for several months now. I am aware that there are others deployed around the country, but the photos below show 2 brand new BMWs based at the Nakhon Pathom Immigration office, each fitted with tilt/pan/zoom cameras on the roof. The camera is connected to an on-board computer which is linked to the Immigration database. Remember the photo that the IO took of you when you arrived or applied for your extension of stay. The feedback is displayed on the officer’s screen almost instantaneously– your photo plus any relevant comments e.g. overstay etc. I’ll give you one guess where the system was obtained from…. Got it in one… MIC. Edited May 11, 2019 by 007 RED Typo

lonewolf99
When a country begins to completely resemble North Korea then even the Chinese and Indians won't come..... For me they can take DNA, photographs, fingerprints, iris scans, blood and semen if they want. I don't care if they spend billions doing it because it is all a waste of their time and money. The system is doomed to fail as it requires maintenance...a word or system that does not exist in LoS.

They said so can target customers needs after they know what they purchase and the frequency of buying and coming. It would link up to your mobile. Never happened so far but probably will, and when they open that worm up, I am stopping to buy from them anymore. sjaak327
OMG, even longer waits to enter the country. Thailand's immigration officers already take an average of two minutes to process a single traveler. It boggles the mind why it should take this long to scan a passport and put a stamp in it. With this mumbo jumbo that is totally useless, it will probably take a whopping three minutes to process a single person.....
