Can someone guide me about Honda Civic modifications? I want to modify my Honda Civic but don’t know where to get the modification parts or a mechanic to consult. It’s a 1997 Civic Coupe.

 

Would love to know the process of modification permission from LTD and where can I get them + who can install it.

Will the cost be below 130k to modify or does it depends what I choose e.g turbo and other stuff..

Depends how much more HP you want.
Small increase with ECU remap.
Turbo is imo waste of money, yes more HP but you probably also need to change injectors and for sur ECU remap.
I guess the Civic 1997 already had CVT transmission? If so, I would advice not to modify at all.
But even a manual transmission will not add much fun. You have standard 106HP with Turbo you might get 50HP more. Even a 2l turbo diesel engine will give you easily 200HP these days so what do you want to accomplish?

I have not used any of them so cannot comment on their work. I know them as I once consulted on modifying my own car, but could not get the engine imported through Thai Customs.... Grrrr.

I'm a Toyota guy but I understand 90's civics are very easy to modify and king of many circuits? 

 

I've seen civic with new G25-550 quickspool turbo flying at circuit......

 

Of course aiming high would require higher amount of budget... but certainly hondas would cost less than say, many other cars? honda engines are lightweight and bulletproof, swap options are plenty; ecu can be cheaply chipped, rod/stroke ratio offen very good to start with

The OP’s estimate was 130k I guess you need to swap transmission and engine plus turbo plus a list of mods. I would be very surprised is this can be done for 600k

What about Toyota Celica 1996 2.2 4Eye?

Loud exhaust, engine modifications like a bigger engine?

How about Toyota Crown..I think that's what it is ???

  3 litre  2J "black top" engine all for 18,000 baht !!!!!

If its automatic this will blunt the performance and the auto box is not designed to handle the power either.

 

Another way is to swap the entire engine and gearbox for something more powerful. Which is what I wanted to do but could not get the engine through customs as an individual item, needs to be in with some other goods in a container. (Anyone got a container coming over from Blighty?)

 

(Other suggestions on importing used engine welcome.... thanks)

There's no way really to get 300HP from the original engine + auto in that car. You could try an engine swap to a B16A but they are getting long in the tooth now. I've seen some later civic swaps with k20A or K24 (200hp) + 5 or 6 speed. They will exceed your budget though. A turbo will work but will shorten the auto life and not get near 300hp. I had a civic 2004 2.0 for many years. hardly modified at as it wasnt worth the money to get decent power from it.

I drive a Celi ST204 converted GT4 daily, Toyotas driving smooth but require large sum of money to mod and very unreliable at big power. That's why 6gcs are nicknamed "faff". For start, you need good plugin or standalone ecu because toyota OEM is not mappable. 

 

That said, 2.2 5sfe has a very solid bottom end than older 2.0 3sg, many GT4 owners changed to 5s block for big power. Coupled with good head and mods(speaking of mods, we're talking titanium girdle/half filled block here) some are running crazy numbers on youtube. 

 

Civics are good for modding, swappin K, B, maybe even F? engine and manual drivetrain it's lot easier to mod than Celis. And reliable. Honda heads flow great and bottomend bulletproof even in stock form. 

 

Evos(beware many maybe e-cars which is lancer swapped evo drivetrain) are dirt cheap in Thailand. Just buy one to save hassle, also you have to know the car, I heard different Evo marks have different nitpickings, check the car throughly before purchase

And speaking of Thailand... ... You can do literally all mods without worry MOT test. When I bought my car the brake lights wasn't working and she passed Tor ror or in a jiffy... no one cared. 

 

iirc traffic code states car noise can't be higher than a certain dB but have yet to see that enforced on any exhaust maniac. 

 

Most difficult would be when you spray color, import engine, swap engine and need that bluebook updated. Make sure dealer is legitimate and keep all receipts and documents.

Thanks, my problem now is getting the engine through Thai Customs. Any ideas?
