BANGKOK, 24 May 2019 (NNT) - Entrepreneurs remain confident that the country’s economic growth is still on track, thanks to positive tourism figures and the government’s infrastructure investment. In April, Thailand saw almost 6,000 startups with a total registered capital of 15 billion baht.

The Director-General of the Department of Business Development, Wuthikrai Leeweerapan, said today the number of new business registrations tallied 5,944 last month, with total registered capital of 15 billion baht. Most of them are in Bangkok and neighboring provinces to support the government’s electric train construction projects, followed by other constructions, real estate, and tourism-related projects in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC). New business registrations totaled 26,694 in the first four months of this year, up 6% on the same period last year.

According to the GDP growth projection and economic direction, the number of new business registrations this month is likely to be higher than the previous month. There have been at least 32,000 startups since the beginning of 2019, with the department expecting new company registrations to exceed 70,000 firms this year.

Lots of companies are used for holding assets and to run losses.  Its not really accurate to call them startups.
