Vehicle transfer question

Featured Replies

I lived in Thailand until the end of April 2019 when I left permanently.

Before I left, I sold my bike to a Thai man. He is now unable to transfer the bike onto his  name. The Traffic department tells him my visa has expired.

What can I do to help him? Im not going to Thailand again.

In the regular way you cannot legally transfer ownership of a motor vehicle to another person  without a Residence certificate. Thais have that with their ID cards

The new owner can re-tax and re -insure the bike in the normal way -so his use of the bike is not affected.

If he wishes to sell the bike -then the new owner has to accept the position.

The only limitation is that the bike cannot be taken out of the country.

What was the sale price ?

I think there is another thread running by where you provide him with a copy of your passport and expired visa exit stamps....easily sent by email, line etc so he can print

Only in some provinces. I think in the majority of provinces a certificate of residence from the seller is not required.

@OP: Usually a copy of the exit stamp in your passport should be accepted.

Info good but no mention of a title transfer application form I think buyer will want you to sign.

On websites it gets confusing so I'm going our DLT to see what's needed for sure.

If provided with a copy of westerners owners passport and expired visa exit stamp pages, there's a form or forms that's also needed to be signed as well by the owner by most accounts in the selling process.

A foreigner buyer needs to bring the following to the Land Transport Office:

The Motorbike.

Vehicle ownership book (green book)

Passport

Signed copies of passport info page and visa page

Residence Certificate from Immigration or your embassy (or a work permit) Yellow house book.

Application form signed by the seller (form available at the office) a title transfer application form.

In addition, you’ll need either of the following from the seller:

Signed copy of national ID card if the seller is a Thai citizen

Signed copy of passport info and visa pages if the seller is a foreigner
