Visa for Hong Kong

Featured Replies

I'm planning on taking my (British) son to Disneyland Hong Kong for his birthday next year. I understand that neither him nor I will require a visa as we're both UK passport holders. However, my wife has a Lao passport and it seems she will need a visa.

I've had a look online and it seems like she will need to apply for the visa at the Chinese Embassy in Bangkok.  Does anyone have experience of this - is it done online or does she have to go in person?  Are there any issues in Laotians getting a visa (in Bangkok) for what will be a 3 day trip at most?

Thanks

The Chinese embassy just takes the paperwork and sends it on to Hong Kong for processing. This can take quite some time.

Much better is to send the application yourself to Hong Kong, faxing the documents first, as detailed in Part II No. 8 here:

https://www.immd.gov.hk/eng/services/visas/visit-transit/visit-visa-entry-permit.html

But even this is not a rapid process, just quicker and easier than submitting the application through the embassy.

Thanks. I was afraid that it wouldn't be straightforward. I will read the link about applying direct from HK. Hopefully it doesn't involve having to send her passport out of Thailand - presumably it's an electronic visa?
