Bangkok Bank and Monthly Social Security Deposit - Any Changes?

Featured Replies

Some time back it was reported that after April 1, transfers from Bangkok Bank in New York to the Bangkok Bank in Thailand would not have the proper coding for use as evidence of monthly income for a Retirement Visa.  Is that still the case or can you now transfer money from the New York office with the proper coding?

If the SSA sends it with the IAT code you will receive it. Got mine today.

You also now have the option to have it direct deposited into any Thai bank account since International Direct Deposit went into effect.

I have read reports they should be able to do the IAT format for the transfers via the New York branch.

But for International Direct Deposits there is nothing new about it.

do you still need a special account with no debit card for bangkok bank,

social security direct deposit?

Not if using IDD. But it appears that they are not being shown as international transfers when coming into the country.

Ongoing topic about it here.

If transferring via the Bangkok Bank branch in New York it still requires a special direct deposit account be set up that has no ATM cards or online banking.
