PHUKET: Leading water officials this week unveiled a B3.5 billion plan to have water piped across the channel from Phang Nga as a long-term solution to the island’s increasing water-supply woes.

The news comes as Phuket’s main reservoirs remain at record low levels despite recent heavy rains.

Downpours drenched the island on Tuesday and Wednesday, with Tuesday (July 16) alone seeing the Phuket Town area doused with 79.2mm of rainfall and Phuket International Airport recording 40.6mm. Rain on Wednesday saw a further 28.5mm of rainfall land across Phuket Town and 28.4mm at the airport.

Why aren't they digging "dredging" the reservoir now it's in its current state?  Surely if they could dig it deeper then it would hold more water in the future? Heck, they could probably make money selling the dredged soil for landfill for the construction industry.

Do you want to alleviate the water problem? Close all the useless pools that have become fashionable for years, every room in the hotel must have its own pool!
Until about 20 years ago many hotels / resorts didn't even have a swimming pool.
All of us, the dreadful race of idiots, are wasting our resources for a momentary pleasure!
WE ARE GREAT!

How much does a desal plant cost?  What ever happened to the desal plant that was supposed to take care of Karon and Kata that is on the road between Karon and Patong?

I barely runs since the Centara grand was built. Remember the pipes that ran across the sand? They dug them deeper down and built over them, now they are blocked they won't rip up the hotel to repair it.

When it runs, it's about 20% of it's capacity.

That hotel was basically built on a beach.

With ideas like that you will be deported for bringing shame apon the reputation of Thai water officials.

Yes, the average 10 year old could derive that solution but not any person in an official capacity

In Europe yes I quite agree.. but the age of maturity and rational thinking here is somewhat later in life if ever.. often never achieved in an official capacity!
