Bangkok police are hunting for the teenage motorcyclists who organised a race outside the Grand Palace on Saturday night.

The racing was over by the time police reached the scene, but CCTV recordings and videos posted on social media have provided them with clues as to the bikers’ identity.

Clips obtained by Nation TV were apparently taken by a bystander using a phone camera and may have been shared by one of the race organisers.

A police spokesman said officers from Chana Songkhram station were gathering video from surveillance cameras.

Pol Colonel Krissana Phathanajaroen urged parents to make sure their children shun street racing, warning that they too could face legal action for not keeping their kids in check.

A senior policeman said this was the first time there had been motorcycle racing anywhere in the vicinity of the palace.

Pol Maj General Senit Samranruamkij said two teenagers seen in a video clip watching the race had been identified and given a lecture.

Two riders seen racing in the clip will be charged with reckless endangerment and street racing, he said.

I have an idea: How about the police enforce traffic laws every day? And how about they don't take bribes?

Then more and more people would follow the laws and maybe one day they would respect and trust the police.

Wouldn't that be a great idea?

But in Thailand is sounds like a funny dream. Honest police - 555!

How about stopping the street racing outside the bar where I go disturbing while having beer

Wow ! What a punishment for racing outside the revered palace .........a lecture.  Should be fined and do some community service as a minimum

In the light of zero pro-active policing they can do what they want where & when they feel like it !

Yeah, I'm sure they wet their pants. Instead their bikes should be confiscated for a month or so.

Given a lecture, what a complete break down in law and order, the bad days will follow, these ferel youths will have students and in 20 years time they will do the same, you have break the chain

There seems to be a complete lack of mobile, radar equipped and outfitted patrol vehicles to monitor the roadways.

There seems to be a complete lack of trained, ethical, proactive, and selfless public servants to operate these vehicles.

There seems to be a complete lack of political will and civic cooperation to improve the pathetic conditions on the roadways.

There seems to be an abundance of police escorts for black limos and buses carrying who knows? There seems to be no lack of "patrol cars", and flashing lights to make way for the power brokers.

Sure glad I am just "passing through" these many years.

Read it again, they weren't racing.

"two teenagers seen in a video clip watching the race had been identified and given a lecture."

They should be taken inside to meet the present incumbent. I am sure he knows how to deal with them.
