Two people, one of them a child, were killed and two others were severely injured when a big bike crashed into a sidecar on a road in Nakhon Si Thammarat’s Nop Pitam district Tuesday night, police said.

Police said the accident happened on a road in Ban Nai Toon village in Tambon Na Reng.

The big bike driver, Amornrat Klaothanom, 34, a resident of Nakhon Si Thammarat’s Tha Sala district, was killed outright.

A 14-year-old girl, Parita Dokbua-ai, who was riding in the sidecar of an oncoming motorcycle, also died at the scene.

Another girl, Phattarawadee Chubutr, 14, was rushed to the Tha Sala Hospital along with her relative, who was driving the bike with the sidecar. The driver was not named by police.

Police theorized from traces on the road that the big bike was driving at a fast speed and the driver lost control before crashing into the sidecar.

And I'm willing to bet the side car bike was not registered as a side car bike and the rider was not licenced, not trying to say the big bike rider was not at fault just saying from experience

Of course not, she was 14....

"Big Bike" what childish terminology but TIT. All road vehicles are potentially lethal weapons in the wrong hands. Proper training and licensing would be desirable but then I woke up and thought why bother putting any more effort into writing this post????????????

Just a minor correction Sir, But in all probability the driver did not have a licence anyway.....:wai:

If you are in the sidecar you are a passenger. Age has nothing to do with it.

As far as I know, sidecars are not provided for within the registration. They are just being mounted to the bike or not.

The no rear lights riders are in my mind culpable in there own deaths, has anybody(farange) had a bike on the floor with no rear lights, if so what happened, i just want to be prepared

As a shocked western visitor commented as we watched three kids getting on a motorbike to go to school, "Why on earth is the littlest one driving?!"

I opined, "Probably because the biggest one doesn't know how to ride a bike yet?"

Yes, but whether something is illegal or not has absolutely no relevance in Thailand. People do whatever they like, and the police let them. Total anarchy.

of the 4 people on the bike 2 injured and 2 dead.  that sounds about right and a 50% survival rate to boot.
