Reasons to Stay in Thailand

Seeing as there are so many "I'm outta here" threads, I thought I'd start one that highlights the great things about this enchanting land.

 

Here are a few of the reasons why Thailand is my home

 

• Great climate (I hate the cold)

 

• Fantastic food

 

• Wonderful people

 

• Inexpensive when compared to the west (yes it is getting more expensive, but so is everywhere)

 

• Lovely ladies (no one will disagree with that one)

The strong baht, awesome for sending money home !!

The unpredictability of the Thai authorities  (makes it a little more interesting)

Good.. Wife.. Dogs.. Cheap home / pool.. 

Break even.. Climate, IMO only good for <1/2 the year.. 

 

Bad.. Service levels, cost of living (higher end), lack of fun entrepreneurial challenges, idiocy, corruption, hassle factor, constantly broken crap (service levels and poor quality / costs linked I guess). 

 

I have really felt the fun factor balance slipping last 5 years, luckily for me I now have a UK / European life also and can split my year, but thats creating a tug of war with my dogs, wife, home etc..

Everything I could ever wish to buy comes past my front door, so no need to go out .....

Yes, family is important. I have two grown up sons and a wife, so that's another reason for staying.

Living here I have good health, love, companionship, beauty, convenience, comfort and a sense of balance and wellbeing.

 

Being a foreigner in a foreign land helps one gain perspective and adds depth and complexity to the adventure of life.  Falling in love, learning a language and challenging yourself to look at things from different perspectives adds to your knowledge base and can make you a better more grounded person.

The second half of your sentence doesn't always correlate with the first part.

 

You highlight quite a few reasons to live in Thailand, and I agree with every point that you list.  People don't always move on for negative reasons within that country. As posts have indicated, the reasons for leaving Thailand may be nothing to do with Thailand at all.

I am a little confused when I read things like this because they don't seem to affect my life here.  The stuff I buy doesn't seem to break, I am happy with service and quality levels, the idiocy of others is their problem not mine, I have not experienced any corruption and life is not a hassle for me.

When someone claims they live here and have not witnessed or experienced corruption at all.. Makes me think the rest of thier statement is as willful denial.

A sense of freedom,away from idiotic PC ideology found back home,police nowhere to be seen,a thai lady as a partner who knows how to take care of 'her man" and who still has that lovely feminine quality that's become lost in the west.

And as there are still thousands of expats here who have made thailand their home,maybe residing here more than 20+ years it must be ok for most.

The weather - being able to barbeque food almost any time. Live in the UK & you'll understand the perils of 'having a barbecue.

 

My lovely wife.

 

Gardening. Being able to grow things, without the cold or frost devastating the beans (or whatever) overnight.

 

Som Tam - love the stuff!

 

Another thumbs up for the weather; sitting outside on the patio having breakfast.

 

 

Warm rain, & not those piercing bolts of cold that attack your body in the UK.

I enjoy my drive to town (55km) and love driving in the mountains where I live.  Our roads are good, our electricity, water and internet are great.  I can only speak of my personal experience, however.

Was responding to someone who is blind to the world around them, which was my precise point about willful denial..
