Emma Watson has paid tribute to Harry Potter author JK Rowling on her 54th birthday with a "sexy and scary" throwback pic.

The actress, who played Hermione Granger in the film franchise, shared a photo on Instagram of herself dressed as Wonder Woman alongside her Harry Potter co-star Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood) and the author.

She captioned the pic: "Sexy and scary! You smashed this. All the love to you @jk_rowling. Happy Birthday!!!! Extra points to @Evy_Lynch for being the most perfect cat."

Evanna later commented on it: "Ahhhh I didn’t know this photo existed!!!!"

There was a time when she had beautiful hair. And then she cut her hair and became a feminist. What a waste!

I wasn't aware she'd gone sad, but from a rather frumpy girl, she grew up to be amazingly "hot". Pity if she's gone over to the dark side.
