A shrieking alarm and flashing light should do, but it is still difficult to find the right product, because many customers complain that they are generally too sensitive...

If you know how then you can hook your own system to an infrared switch:

I've even seen some camera software that has the input for these kind of external motion sensor. You can adjust the sensitivity of infrared switch so a mouse or bird would not trigger it but human and car would.

Personally, I would use a Raspberry Pi or Arduino with a LTE antenna for internet. However, to build this setup you need to know some basic programming but it provides maximum flexibility.

  • you would need a completely stand alone camera(s) with a SIM card that would be setup to text you when motion is detected.

  • Yes... I don't have a computer, don't need one and don't want to buy one just for the cameras...

  • You need cameras that support ONVIF protocol (most do) that should be managed via a dedicated computer. If you want video acceleration for object detection/license plate reading you might need a good

Outside my house I have a Reolink cameras, they are a chinese on AliExpress, I use the version that uses power but there are battery powered, waterproof and non-waterproof. They have an app that handles motion detection.

Inside the house I have Xiaomi Xiaofang cameras, these are cute little fixed cameras, they are unobtrusive around the home, you can even run them off a battery pack if need be, they also make a defang which is motorized.

I record and view with Synology Surveillance station .. which is an app installed in my NAS .. this manages multiple streams to a live view monitor. Really, it doesn’t matter what cameras I use the NAS is the brains, the cameras are all cheap $10-20, but the Synology NAS will cost you 10-15K but it has multiple uses, backing up documents, streaming movies and music around your house, etc.

Edit - I just you don’t have a computer, no interest in smart home - I saw a good review on a camera the other day - eufy cam .. they look interesting, all wifi IP, battery powered ..

A bit pricey for me, 3 waterproof cameras and a stand alone base station.
