Hi all, my gf/soon to be wife is going to be applying for a schengen visa in the upcoming months, so I would appreciate any advice that anyone can give. There aren't that many non-EU posts so that's why I am creating this.

Context:

Her- Thai

Me- Singaporean

Relationship status: Solemnization/registration of marriage Late November 2019

Date of trip to Europe: 17 Dec to 1 Jan

Flights and hotel accomodation booked

We're currently in the process of gathering documents for her visa application and I would like to clarify some points.

1. I intend to be her sponsor but as the time of application we do not have any legal ties to each other. The only supporting document that I can show would be our solemnization application. Will that suffice?

2. As her sponsor, do I need to be there with her when she goes for the interview? This might present a problem as I am based in Singapore while she is based in BKK.

3. Financially, she has her Thai bank account with 40k baht while I can use my Singapore bank account to show that I have the means of supporting her. Will it be a problem if we use accounts from two countries?

4. After our marriage, she will be moving to Singapore. Will that be an issue given that it will be my address, which is different from her household registration? The supporting document that we can show to support this would be a Pre-marriage Long Term Visitor Pass (Pre-LTVP), which shows that she is eligible to apply for a LTVP after our marriage.

I am not too optimistic about this too be honest given that there are too many moving parts that a consular official could pick on if he/she wishes. Moreover, she probably needs to apply for this in mid-Oct as she needs to be in Singapore by early November to settle our marriage stuff in Singapore.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Where are you intending visiting in the Schengen Area, each member state has different requirements?

She will need to apply at the Consulate with jurisdiction for your main destination, if you’re traveling within the Schengen Area and spending an equal amount of time in more than one State, then she should apply via the Consulate with jurisdiction for your point of entry.

There is an excellent pinned topic, drafted by member Donutz, at the top of the forum regarding applications for Schengen Visa.

There are no interviews and decisions are usually made on the strength of the evidence supplied, you don’t need to attend.

She will need to submit evidence of an itinerary, return flights, accommodation, insurance, affordability and her ties to her home country.

If you’re financially sponsoring her you’ll need to submit evidence of your ability to do so, along with your reasons. If you’re traveling together provide a copy of your flights and passport.

We're heading to France, Italy (main country) and flying back from Switzerland.

I've read Donutz's post, and understand the general requirements. I guess for me, I'm just anxious about the possibility of getting rejected, especially as she won't be having any ties to her home country after we're married but yet without official confirmation from the Singapore side that she can reside long term in the country.

If you show substantial funds in yr bank account as a sponsor theres no reason for you to be rejected. And next big thing is the travel insurance coverage for both of you using one of the major ones in bangkok.
