Chevrolet has launched its new Captiva SUV, imported from Indonesia, at prices starting at below Bt1 million.

The new Captiva is available in three trim levels, with LS starting at Bt999,000 (Bt30,000 extra for the seven-seat option), while the LT and Premier, which come with seven-seats, going for Bt1.099 million and Bt1.199 million respectively.

Apart from the LED headlights, Captiva’s other new features include a 10.4-inch touchscreen, 360-degree exterior view camera, Harman Kardon audio system with Chevrolet Link infotainment system and panoramic sunroof. The top two trims also come with 4 USB ports as well as air-vents for third-row passengers.

The second-row seats have sliding, tumble and split-folding functions, while Chevrolet says the new Captiva offers a larger cabin along with 587 litres of cargo capacity once the third-row seats are folded flat.

Power comes from a newly developed turbocharged 1.5-litre engine capable of producing 143hp and 250Nm. A CVT (continuously variable transmission) with eight-speed manual mode is standard across the range.

In a move to boost sales, Chevrolet is offering a cash discount of Bt40,000 for the first 300 buyers of the LS model, while buyers of the LT and Premier models get free scheduled maintenance for the first 50,000kms/30 months. There is also a low 1.89-per cent interest rate offer plus 1-year insurance.

So they dropped the top model by several hundred thousand.

Had one when they came out at first and was ok but I sold it before it killed me !! It developed a problem with the engine management and when you tried to pass a car in front you would find yourself pulling out and getting level with the car you were passing before the power died and you would end up going same speed as car you were trying to pass !!

This was a big problem when someone was trying to follow you or had moved into the space you pulled out off and you had to try get in while a car was coming head on at you !

No matter what they done at garage they couldn’t fix it so sold it back to Chevrolet.

So a smaller, albeit turbo charged engine, but similar body size to the much more expensive CRV and CX-5. Chevy know that undercutting these two popular rivals on price is the only way they stand a chance of gaining a foothold. It could possibly work, as the market here is very price sensitive (why else would anyone buy an MG?).

I know why they only show a front picture: the proportions of the car are ugly with those tiny wheels on it.

Reminds me of the Mitsubishi Xpander which shares the same ugly feature of wheels that are too small.

Down-sized in many aspects to try to catch a few customers in Asia with smaller pockets.

The chevrolet won't sell well. The new MG HS is much better based on current reviews of both vehicles. The HS will have a big impact in our market, but not sell as many as the crv.

Is something below ฿1-million really affordable for Thais?

Must be, there's plenty of Fortunas and Pajeros on the road, they sell for well over a mill.

But how is the price difference if you drive that car let's say 3 years? The road tax in Holland will make a big dent in the 'savings' of the buying price. Furthermore labour costs in Holland are very expensive, so the maintenance of that car will also be high compared to the same car in Thailand. Although spare parts of this car will probably be more expensive here, you will save a lot on the difference in maintenance costs. I'm from Holland and agree with you on the fact that the prices here for 2 hand cars are quite high, but they are getting more reasonable over the last few years. You can buy a nice BMW of 5 years old for not too much different price than in Holland. For the much older cars the prices in Holland are indeed much less.

Yes, it is, at least for a short time, after which since it is not possible to pay the installment, it belongs to the bank!
And with that the winner is ... THE BANK!

Maybe in 10-20  more years, electrified vehicles will become more common. But Thais love their diesels, whereas most electrified cars are expensive are and there isn't the infrustructure to support electric vehicles at this time.

So which all electric vehicles are available in Thailand?

Only these ones so far. July sales. image.png.0610dd7d0dcc322496d3e1c7b1ff3e51.png

With most charging stations based only in Bangkok I would

think these all electric vehicles would be suitable for Bangkok

use only.

Until Thailand build enough charging stations all over the country then the concept will never catch on.

Maybe in another 10-20 years.

It also says a lot when Toyota & Honda who lead in the car

sales market haven't entered the EV market as of yet.
