Thailand worries mass tourism is bringing terrorism troubles

So let me get this straight.  Retirees such as I are,  in the eyes of the Thai authorities,  just as likely to commit terrorist acts as those nasty Middle Eastern maggots that do terrible things in London or Paris.  Yer, right!  Shows how little though has gone into the whole business!

With price rises in Thailand and the falling £, it's only a matter of time.

Seriously considered petrol bombing my local bar last week. 90 baht for a large Leo? They don't know who they're dealing with.

Farang specialty is criminal rings, drug trafficking and pedophilia.   No one is competing with them.

The local Thais beat them into a cocked hat on all counts.

Keep killing off western currencies from ChiCom hot money inflows--and guaranteed you'll have more terrorism.

How in the name of Mickey Finnegan does that work?

We all know you have 'ChiCom' tattooed on the inside of both eyelids but as a 'crowbar of the week award' this one falls somewhat short.

"rapidly rising inflow of tourists"? Where are they all going? Most businesses in Pattaya that rely on tourism are struggling or closing.
And, of course, continuous monitoring of the whereabouts of these tourists is certain to reduce domestic terrorism!

An ankle bracelet on arrival!  That failing, a dog collar and leash controlled by an army general!

Fantastic idea, then the dog collar could be activated remotely to deliver a shock, whenever 'the dirty foreigners' misbehave.

Still, some of the more progressive amongst us might enjoy it.....

thai government is the biggest treat to it's population and also to tourists.

the last terrorist attack against tourists was in 2015 at erewan shrine, where 20 died, including 14 chenese. This attack was in response to sending by thai government back to china 100 refugees, where they were executed. A month later the grey wolfs from turkey retaliated with bombing. Court procedures are still pending, that after 4 years, after some scapegoats were arrested.

They weren't refugees. They were Uighur extremists with fake Turkish passports on their way to Syria. Neither were they executed' but granted, you'd have a hard time finding them now.

WUtter claptrap. Thailand's terrorism is entirely domestic. The bombs and murders in the southern three provinces are not carried out by a family of 4 from Dorset upset with the price of pad thai.

Thailand needs to monitor its own people first before it points accusing fingers at foreigners.

Try reading the article. Prayjth is concerned Thailand is a meeting place for terrorists to plan attacks ELSEWHERE

Its fact that the 911 terrorists Where in bangkok before flying to LA.

The concern is real

They're on remand awaiting trial. Haven't been convicted. Both are pleading not guilty.

Coming?

Its here already.

My last area Nern plub wan is predominantly Muslim and the call to prayer is publicly broadcast several times a day.

And populus wise, they don't have the 0.7 children like the western world.

They have them by the litter.

Radicalization is quite possibly already festering away.

I stated on here a year or 2 back back that that particular part of Pattaya could be a hotbed for nefarious goings on, who knows what's going on in the schools & Mosques ?

They wants the money, statistics and prestige associated with big tourism but not the hassle of actual people. Perhaps everyone should just send money and stay home. Would that help? ????

Any threat to Thailand is already there or close by.

Thailand's biggest threat is........THAILAND

Glad your kids enjoy a good walk to Mexico or Canada, or maybe a swim to Cuba

Nothing in Life is Free, unless you run a church and people give you money for nothing

That's right daddy pays the bill for them and are no where near poor.

With a visa.

???? SE Asia they can travel on their Thai passports which have no visa necessary. Everywhere else they can go on their US passport. Best of both worlds.

"But it must also keep its own house in order by adopting an effective and efficient system to manage the influx."

And therein lies the problem , nothing much in Thailand is effective and efficient.

Maybe not for you but definitely for the pockets of Prayut and cronies ????

Boo-hoo, terrorism. Thailand is such a funny little country on the global stage, the only real and credible threat is domestic terrorism.

As far as tourists are concerned, and mass tourism in particular, I'd be much more worried about pollution, garbage, the destruction of what little is left of "nature" and overcrowding.

The ONLY way to try to combat this would be International collaboration, which I am sure must happen, otherwise none of the barriers they introduce will help.

I am sure that most countries have unwittingly harboured potential terrorists before they actually committed the act, as it is doubtful their bio-metrics such as fingerprints are on file yet, if they are on a watch list of one of the major intelligence organisations then it is possible, perhaps even probable, that facial recognition could play a part in their identification upon entering another country, but this would only work if this info is shared with other countries and entered in to the appropriate database, the issue then becomes who do you share it with, the more countries and therefore people that know, the more likely the potential terrorist will as well!

Personally I have no issues with the use of Bio-metrics for entering a country, most normal people wouldn't.

I still find it amazing that western left wing Governments so keen to force their own people into political correctness and acceptance of foreigners into their countries have NOTHING to say to countries like China and Thailand that practice racism so freely. The left places no emphasis on the need for the rest of the world to accept liberal ideology only the section it wants to make unequal!!
