So let me get this straight.  Retirees such as I are,  in the eyes of the Thai authorities,  just as likely to commit terrorist acts as those nasty Middle Eastern maggots that do terrible things in London or Paris.  Yer, right!  Shows how little though has gone into the whole business!

the last terrorist attack against tourists was in 2015 at erewan shrine, where 20 died, including 14 chenese. This attack was in response to sending by thai government back to china 100 uyghur refugees, where they were executed. A month later the grey wolfs from turkey retaliated with bombing. Court procedures are still pending, that after 4 years, after some scapegoats were arrested. 

 

the present thai government is scared of foreigners because of their own nationalist, xenophobic and racist ideology, which they believe to, and want the rest of population to follow. They are stepping back into past, when there was possible to survive without any connection with an outside world. They prefer to live under a coconut shell, in an oyster, in a country called Kalaland. That's going back to North Korea or Albania experience

And, of course, continuous monitoring of the whereabouts of these tourists is certain to reduce domestic terrorism!

They weren't refugees. They were Uighur extremists with fake Turkish passports on their way to Syria. Neither were they executed' but granted, you'd have a hard time finding them now.

Tourism is the only economic sector that has been growing for the last few years.  Without it GDP growth would have been negligible or negative. It is also the main source of foreign exchange earnings.  Now tourism is in decline too dragged down by Trump's trade war, the strong baht and the declining yuan, which is directly related to the trade war.  

 

In view of the importance tourism to the economy and the fact that it is now in trouble the new government's vision for managing it will probably include shackling tourists to their bedsteads at 10.00 pm and releasing them in the morning in time to dress politely, eat some rice gruel, salute the national flag at 08.00 am and go about a fitting schedule of activities that reflect Thai values, such as visiting Buddhist temples, paying 20 times the going rate to visit national monuments and national parks, buying OTOP handicrafts and sample super spicy dishes made of raw pigs blood, raw field crab and fermented uncooked mud fish at local markets.

 

Those on NON-B visas and retirement and marriage extensions can be excused the shackles as long as they agree to pay through the nose to have ankle bracelets fitted that will report their coordinates to Immigration (and to their significant others) on a continuous basis.

 

That is Thailand 4.00.

They're on remand awaiting trial. Haven't been convicted. Both are pleading not guilty.

Boo-hoo, terrorism. Thailand is such a funny little country on the global stage, the only real and credible threat is domestic terrorism.

 

As far as tourists are concerned, and mass tourism in particular, I'd be much more worried about pollution, garbage, the destruction of what little is left of "nature" and overcrowding.

The ONLY way to try to combat this would be International collaboration, which I am sure must happen, otherwise none of the barriers they introduce will help.

I am sure that most countries have unwittingly harboured potential terrorists before they actually committed the act, as it is doubtful their bio-metrics such as fingerprints are on file yet, if they are on a watch list of one of the major intelligence organisations then it is possible, perhaps even probable, that facial recognition could play a part in their identification upon entering another country, but this would only work if this info is shared with other countries and entered in to the appropriate database, the issue then becomes who do you share it with, the more countries and therefore people that know, the more likely the potential terrorist will as well!

Personally I have no issues with the use of Bio-metrics for entering a country, most normal people wouldn't.

I still find it amazing that western left wing Governments so keen to force their own people into political correctness and acceptance of foreigners into their countries have NOTHING to say to countries like China and Thailand that practice racism so freely.
