Smaller Nakhon Ratchasima dams must wait for rain: Irrigation office

The Nakhon Ratchasima irrigation office is preparing to pump water to medium-sized dams which have suffered a critically low water level at 0.3 per cent of capacity. However, the office said it must wait for rain to fill the larger dam first.

Reservoirs have seen a slight increase of stored water in the drought-stricken province following recent storms, the office reported on Wednesday.

Affects of the drought continue to be very serious, with four large reservoirs having only a low level of usable water. The current remaining water level is only at 294.04 million cubic metres or 33.21 per cent of the combined capacity of all large reservoirs, while the usable water is at 256.60 cubic metres or 30.26 per cent.

Seeking a solution, the Irrigation office said it is planning to pump water from the Chi River to fill the Ban Huai Takhro basin in October. For the Nong Kok reservoir, they are currently dredging and cleaning the waterway to prepare for a water diversion from Lam Chiang Krai basin, but the current water level in Lam Chiang Krai, at 6 per cent of its capacity, is insufficient to create the water pressure needed to push the water. The office said it must wait for the rain to fill the basin during September and October before proceeding as planned.

Brilliant reporting! They are preparing to pump water - great!

Fact is though they don't have any water to pump - may be a problem! :shock1:

Now they just need the "rains" to cooperate ????

This could well end up in tears! :crying:

Large rain for large dams and small rain for small dams, next!

As per usual,too little,too late.

" they are currently dredging and cleaning the waterway to prepare for a water diversion from Lam Chiang Krai basin, ",this should have been done during the dry season to prepare for the

rainy season, which looks like it might be nearing its end.
