New design manhole covers to be introduced as part of Bangkok’s landscaping

The City Planning Office of City Hall is to introduce a new design of manhole covers as part of the efforts to beautify and improve the landscaping of Bangkok.

The new, colorful manhole covers will first be installed along Khlong Ong Ang in the old town area of Bangkok, which was given a face-lift several months ago, with the garbage-strewn canal unclogged and all the make-shift canal-side shops removed.

Associate Professor Chakraphan Wilasineekul, a researcher with the public sculpture design and public participation project, said that the new manhole covers will help enhance the identity of communities.

Is the picture in the story supposed to symbolize Bangkok’s notorious motorcyclists riding on the pavements?

It's supposed to be a farang on a scooter selling fabric....look at his nice, that's a fallang 100% krabhom.

Doesn't matter how nice they look just make sure they are installed correctly flush with the road so you don shred your tyres when you ride over them

Hopefully they each come with installation instructions. I know won't help but it's the thought.

Manhole is sexist, may I suggest, hole cover, hole lid ..

They are called Manholes because you've never seen a woman at work go down one?

no sexism, no impropriety just the truth.

I preferred the Saphan Lek RC/model making dingy market. But hey.....

Those look cool, I like decorations. Gives me something to look at. I wonder if they will have different designs?

If these manholes are actually located in the pavements (sidewalks) then they could be interpreted as pavements "For motorcyclists only"

Somebody needs to go out of the country to understand what landscaping means.

It's not about concrete sidewalks with painted manholes.
