Phuket university’s safe-sex campaign attracts 390 volunteers

Yesterday, saw the return of Prince of Songkhla University’s Safe Sex Campaign. Now in its third year, some 390 PSU students turned up to support the campaign by making safe sex packs, which are then distributed free to bars in Patong. The safe sex packs include a condom and lubricant.

 

It was the biggest turn-out of students since this corporate social responsibility program began 3 years ago. It was supported by students from all over the world, including many students studying the University’s intercultural communications course. 

 

Carex, the company who very kindly donate the condoms, shipped 60,000 condoms to PSU for the big day yesterday. Students then worked together to put the condoms together with lubricant and information on HIV testing, into packs for distribution. In the past this activity has always been well attended but yesterday saw the highest number of students taking part.

 

A whopping 40,000 safe sex pack were completed with 2 hours as 6 rooms on the campus were taken over as the students kept turning up to be involved.

 

The organisers would like to thank the PSU students for helping promote safer sex on the island of Phuket.

Waaay back when I was at uni the Student's Union decided to promote safe sex by attaching a condom to each issue of the SU magazine.

 

Yes, it was stapled!

I guess one has to use their imagination regarding the application and purpose

Considering the alarming rates of HIV across Asia, I hope they continue this, and also educate their fellow students.

Not sure how public health promotion works though, as have never seen any, even for diet and exercise, much less sexual health.

So, you only wonder why the girl is holding that sign. Not why the boy is holding the same one or two pictures up?

It makes me wonder if it's more about educating the students rather than bar workers.

 

Running a GoGo bar years ago, we paid the staff from the government STD clinic to visit and test all the staff weekly for STDs, and three monthly for HIV.

That way we knew exactly the level of STDs. The clinic staff also gave us boxes of condoms free every couple of months.

And still I hear from blokes who are excited when they can find a bar girl that will do it without protection.

Just add a splash of Relish. that's the best i could come up with at 7 am, oh no another innuendo  

The best protection is Aspirin. (At least for pregnancy. Should help avoid most STDs too)

 

Girl holds Aspirin tightly between knees.

Release only when safe to do so.
