Indonesia vowed to control smog problem, says Prayut

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said on Friday (September 27) that a vice president of Indonesia has promised that his government will do more to control the haze caused by bonfires and forest fires in Sumatra and Kalimantan.

 

Though Prayut did not reveal the name of the vice president in his Facebook Live interview, Indonesia only has one vice president – Jusuf Kalla.

 

Prayut and Kalla reportedly met in New York where they were attending the 74th session of the UN General Assembly and the prime minister was reportedly flying back to Thailand as of Friday evening.

 

Prayut said he had been told that Indonesian authorities are taking all possible measures to cope with forest fires and advised Thais living in the haze-hit South to take steps to protect themselves from the air pollution.

Sounds like all thai council responses to taking care of cleaning up the illegal selling of land in my area. 

Means they will not do anything!!

Indonesia does nothing of the sort otherwise it wouldn't be as bad as it is.

They burn every year and don't give a fark about others in the smokes path.

True I have been in Singapore many times over last 15 years, same issues every year; just like the locals in Chiang Mai and they blame others.

Maybe Indonesia will be able to teach Prayuth something about improving the air quality in his own country.

 

And based upon Indonesian's history I am not confident they will keep this promise. They seem to have absolutely no control over the corporations savaging the land for more ever more noxious palm plantations.

 

Believing this promise is as hazardous as believing a promise from Trump. Is there honor amongst politicians?

 

Like the world needs another plantation for more toxic palm oil.

Indonesia has been promising for the last decade to get on top of the rampant burning decimating its forests....rings as hollow as Thailand's annual statements about doing something about the nationwide burning within it's own borders.

Give me a break... Indonesia makes a vow to curb pollution, which means stop burning forests and fields, yet virtually every day near me, a field is set on fire and/or vast amounts of pesticides are being sprayed. Note:  Army helicopters fly over daily and I'm yet to see one land and confront the burners. Was there climate protest in Thailand?   Ha!
