Can mototaxi's find a place by address alone?

Featured Replies

The card to my guesthouse gives the address in both Thai and English. The English version says this: 316/59 M. 10 Soi Buakhao, Pattaya...

I want someone with my card to be able to travel to me without issues. Is this enough for a mototaxi to find the place? I am asking for 2 reasons:

  1. There seem to be few or no street numbers on Soi Buakao. For example here is the entrance to my place: https://www.google.com/maps/@12.9254814,100.8804089,3a,70.3y,110.71h,92.32t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1swXuodTDDuPBi-bkF0mwSDA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656
  2. Google seems to place a marker to this address 180m too far North(East)

Not sure if every motosai can sort out your adress

Usualy it's better to give a well know place not far for yours

If i understand well your link you can ask to any motosai

'' soi bukkao, action street bar complex''

they alls know where is it and you are at 50 meters from your guest house

Action street would indeed be closest.

Maybe I should print some small maps for them.

Maybe you should show the address at the same time telling them the name of the place. I am pretty sure most of them will be able to find it then.

No. Many of them have no idea how to read maps.

No, I am not joking.

House numbers in Thailand are not in logical order. They are almost useless.

Give them the name of the guesthouse and that will work in most cases. If they don't know it they will drive to the soi and ask a local motorcycle guy there and that guy will know. Problem solved.

Just joining in: almost impossible that a motorcycle taxi will find it by this.

This is true not only for Pattaya but almost all places in Thailand.

Moo 9 and Moo 10 make up most of south Pattaya.

"Soi Buakhao" and name of nearby hotel/appartement house should help.

I made a map that I plan to give the visitor. I think this will make it extremely easy to find:

Come to think of it, an image of the front should also help

It's quite a small place and small sign.

"Marin Place" a few steps on the opposite should really be known.

I would find it, walked past by very often

(but never noticed P.R. guesthouse)

No, no

you was right

Learn the Thai words for go straight, go left, go right, and here.

You appear to be on Soi Buakhao and everyone knows where that is.

I have a lot of experience with this....

FORGET telling them in English where you want to go unless its Big C, Walking Street, Beach or some thing BIG.... moto-cy taxi drivers speak almost no English.....

FORGET your stupid  business cards printed in English its hopeless...

FORGET trying to speak half-ass Thai is not going to work trust me...

What works are business cards printed in THAI or even better is to call the business you want to go to and let the moto-cy driver talk to them...

Works fine for me with the added fluency a dozen plus beers brings. Also met a few who speak pretty good English too.
