German, with German passport, divorced and not married to a Thai, born 24.05.57 (little shy of Thai retirement

visa-wise), passport showing 3 consecutive multiple Non-O-visas all issued at Basle (Switzerland) nearby where

he used to live in Germany, clean record and no overstays, is now looking for a Non-O-Retirement Visa.

His present Non-O-visa expired 10.02.07 and he is now within his last 90 days to leave by 10.05.07. Guy lives

in deep Isaan, but is willing to seek at Bangkok immigration for the retirement visa, since he does not want to

leave LOS.

He can show monthly retirement money of necessary THB 65000 by embassy letter, translated and legalized

by Ministry of Foreign Affairs. House papers (Tabian Ban) available as well as Thai bank account with a few

THB in it. Apart from pictures and the before-mentioned what other paperwork and forms are really needed?

What are his options regarding above and should it not work (visa already expired), what is his next best

and cheapest option? When in fact should he apply?

Many thanks to all experts and the masterminds of this great board.

He should apply at any immigration office about 2 weeks before the expiry of his present stay stamp (10 May 07)

Application form

ID fotos

Bank book. bank book copy, letter from bank stating balance (must match book balance). balance amount not important

Letter from Embassy certifying over 65k per month pension/income

Passport, and passport copy

1,900 baht

Should be approved on spot and given a 1 year stay stamp

He needs to apply for a re-entry permit if he intends to leave LOS during his 1 year to keep the stamp alive.

Good luck

He is not old enough to apply for a retirement extension of stay. He will have to depart the country. He can then obtain a tourist visa from Laos and return using that (he is still under age 50 so do not believe they will issue him a non immigrant visa). Once he is age 50 he can then apply for conversion to a non immigrant visa and then extension of stay for retirement.

Could he also just return on a 30-day visa-waiver stamp without going to the embassy in Laos for a visa? (Sounds like his previous three stays were based on visas.)

Not and still meet the 21 days remaining requirement as his visa ends on the 10th and he does not turn 50 for two more weeks. Best he obtains a visa.

Oh, I forgot about that rule!

It wasn't enforced when I changed my visa-waiver stamp to Non-Immigrant O back in September, so I keep forgetting that it can apply. Thanks for the reminder.
