I was walking through a shopping mall last night and saw an MG Extender. At first glance it seems you get a lot for your baht, and I also like the styling of it.

That's as far as I got. I didn't talk to a salesman or pick up a brochure. I didn't even kick the tyres. Does anyone have any views on it? I own a Mazda BT50 at the moment, which I'm quite happy with.......But I could be tempted.

Me ... I would wait for a year or 2 or 3. See how they stand up. Hear about how they honor their warranty, and frequency of repairs and to which components.

Never a good idea to buy a new product - let the dust settle.

That being said my wife knows probably 6 people who have bought MG's. All happy so far ... no major issues

Same Platform as Nissan Navara.

Given the "sports" heritage of the original MG principles one would think we would get the twin turbo all-singing-all-dancing version . But no...dull run of the mill single turbo.

As the truck is an in production Chinese offering with an MG badge, I wonder why the ride was not sold here before under it's Chinese badge, or perhaps it was but folk would not entertain a Chinese truck...

My exact feelings when I saw the MG ZS , but further digging found a couple of things that stopped me buying.
Poor 4 speed auto box and low resale value ( ZS has been out a while ) were my main quibbles (????is that even a word ? ).

Dig deeper into the specs on the Extender and take a closer look at it in person, the resale values will be somewhat of a gamble.
Or, maybe it’s underpriced to get into the market ??................no , I don’t believe that either !!

Thanks for the replies.

I think you all echo my first feelings about it. Like canthai55 said, maybe give it a year and see what people are saying then.

I have to say....I do feel a little uncomfortable about buying Chinese.

Nissan most under rated vehicles in LOS re: value for money

Except for their use of CVT

It looks to be similar in quality  as everything else out there, so the only two variables are  price, and record.

Record: It does not have a long track record so one is not sure how it will perform in the long run,  what support you will get from the company. or what the resale value will be in the future

Price: it is priced lower than other comparable products but because it has no track record one does not know what the resale value will be when time comes for replacement.

But given the reputation of Chinese products one can have a guess.

So any savings up front  have a good chance to be a wash by losses  on the back end.

Unless of course  you were planning to run it into the ground and never sell it at which point you are only taking a chance on it's reliability.

Perhaps it's not as good as we might think it is?

As it has no track record, I can understand the heavy depreciation but that's not my main concern.

I'm more worried about build quality, reliability and after sales service. I guess only time will tell.

I've yet to see one on the road.

SAIC have a variety of brands (Like GM once did) and sell this ute under different brand names in different markets.  In Australia it is the LDV T60.  Funny they don't promote the L originally stood for Leyland.  In Thailand, SAIC have a deal with CP for MG and they probably think MG has more cred than Leyland - no surprise there.
