Traffic Foreign Supercar Owners Fined for Flouting Phuket Parking Laws
Picture courtesy of Phuket Times ภูเก็ตไทม์ Luxury supercars belonging to foreign tourists received traffic citations for illegal parking in downtown Phuket, causing a stir on social media on June 4, 2025. These high-end vehicles were spotted parked in a clearly marked restricted area outside a popular restaurant in the historic part of the city, catching the attention of locals and online communities who quickly demanded police intervention. Images of these sleek machines parked illegally were shared extensively, reaching local groups and even becoming a topic within police communication networks. Responding to public outcry, Phuket City Police Station instructed traffic officers to address the situation immediately. Upon arriving, officers verified that the vehicles displayed foreign license plates, reinforcing the belief that they were rented by tourists visiting the famed island. The police promptly issued citations to the supercar owners for breaching parking regulations, instructing them to move their flashy rides without delay. This decisive action was met with widespread approval from residents, who praised the authorities for applying the law equally, regardless of the luxury associated with the offenders' vehicles. The incident underscored Phuket's commitment to upholding road safety and discipline, delighting local citizens who value fair and consistent enforcement of the rules. The prompt response from the police and subsequent enforcement highlights Phuket’s adherence to maintaining law and order on its roads, serving as a reminder that no one is above the law, whether they drive a modest moped or a million-baht supercar. This display of law enforcement in action aims to discourage further infringements and ensure that traffic regulations are respected by all, safeguarding the integrity of public spaces for everyone. Community Plankton Bloom Turns Si Racha Sea Green, Temporarily Halts Fishing Operations
Picture courtesy of kaoded. An unusual natural phenomenon has caused the sea off Si Racha, Chonburi province, to change colour, turning a murky green and emitting a foul odour due to a plankton bloom. The incident has temporarily forced local fishermen to suspend their activities, though tourism in the area remains unaffected. At around 13:00 on 4 June, residents along the Si Racha shoreline reported that the sea had turned a deep green. Some coastal marine life had washed ashore, dead or dying from a lack of oxygen. The occurrence, commonly known among locals as “whale faeces” or more scientifically as a plankton bloom, has been seen in the region before. Experts attribute the phenomenon to unstable weather conditions in the days leading up to the event. Recent high winds and waves, measuring over two to three metres, combined with cooler temperatures, disrupted the underwater ecosystem. The turbulence brought an excess of green plankton to the surface, causing a drop in oxygen levels in the water, which in turn led to the death of some marine animals. The bloom is believed to have been triggered when plankton and underwater vegetation were churned up by rough seas, intensifying the discolouration and odour of the seawater. This is expected to subside naturally within five to six days as the weather calms. Local authorities have confirmed that tourism has not been affected. Visitors can continue to travel to Ko Loi Si Racha and other nearby attractions as usual, with no health risks reported. Environmental officials are monitoring the situation and advising fishermen to resume operations once marine conditions return to normal. While disruptive to the fishing community, the plankton bloom is understood to be a natural and temporary ecological occurrence, with no long-term impact expected on the region’s marine biodiversity or tourism sector. Grab Taxi Suvarnbhumi Airport to Pattaya....I got some news for you...
I often use Cherry Taxi—they’re usually responsive and reliable; however, earlier this year, I did have one issue where the driver didn’t show up, so I asked my hotel to call a different taxi service which I found on the internet. When they did, the hotel staff member was told—somewhat sternly—that there are about 10 taxis advertising under different company names actually belong to the same parent company. They recognized that the booking was for me and told the hotel staff that I should wait and not call any other Taxi companies because the original driver was still on the way. Sure enough, the driver arrived about 10 minutes later. -
