Korat: Inexpensive Hotel & Scooter Rental ?

Featured Replies

Hi !

We're thinking of going to to Korat (as a starting point), renting a room for a few days (hotel or guest house) and driving around the countryside.

Anyone recommend a decent - and non-expensive - place to stay, preferably in the center of town?

We want to rent an automatic scooter - any places to do so?

How does one get from the main bus station into town - is the town within walking distance, or is there a local bus to and from the main bus station?

Any info will be much appreciated - thanks

Hotels. KS Pavillion. Was about 650 Baht awhile ago, not sure now. Located very near The Mall. Sri Pattana Hotel, about 600 Baht and Siri Hotel (newly remodeled) 350 Baht. These two hotels are located within walking distance of the Pasinee Restaurant, a Farang meeting place. Info about motorcycle rentals and just about anything else available there. Lots of other "cheap hotels", but I've only mentoned ones I've stayed at before.

Main bus station is not far from any of the above places. Tuk tuk transportation available at the bus station. Very short ride to KS Pavillion, a little further to the other hotels.

KORAT-Hotel is not bad as well, around 600 Baht. Very much "downtown" (if this term really applies for any area of Korat :o ). Try to get a room away from the side where the discotheques are located....

Depends on your Budget but I stayed in the KR Korat Hotel and while the Disco ( Crocodile Rock ) next door is loud if you are on that side, its a nice clean and friendly place. Its probably the wrong side of Jamo MOnument for most of what you want in town though. Passini is on Suranari Road and Mike the Owner certainly used to rent peds. Not sure if he still does. Not been there in months. It is a fave hang out of the Korat Farang though. Good source of info for a newbie.

Enjoy Korat.

As already stated. Check with Mike at the Pasinee. If he doesn't have any available, he will know who does.
