Opposition seeks to ruin govt’s New Year party

A “shock and awe” campaign has been promised, but the apparently-imminent upcoming censure debate can make or break the opposition as much as it can give the Prayut Cabinet a nightmarish countdown to 2020. Simply put, a lot are at stakes for both sides.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha is emerging from the Asean Summit with his “legitimacy” intact, if not improved. He has received a US pledge to look into America’s GSP problems with Thailand and supervised a smooth high-level regional meeting, which was also attended by senior guests from other parts of the world. In between, he managed to pacify China with sweet words along the lines of “Although we are a tiny nation, we can be of big help to you the superpower” and was reciprocated in kind by a visiting Chinese delegation.

In addition to that, his public statement denying self-exiled Cambodian opposition figure Sam Rainsy a passage through Thailand for his planned and potentially explosive return to Cambodia will do no harm to Prayut’s status among Asean governments. In short, Prayut seems to be doing just fine internationally.

As soon as I saw the silly headline, I thought: 'I bet this is one of those daft Thai PBS Establishment brown-nosing articles'.

And sure enough - it is.

As for the 'article' saying that Prayut is 'doing just fine on the international stage' - please hand me the sick bucket. While you're at it: make that 70 million sick buckets!

Li Keqiang:

"What, China allowing free speech? that's about as likely as his lot allowing an unrigged electoral system that leads to a functioning, independent, representative, democratic legislature with impartial, trustworthy, judicial oversight and operating without the threat of brute force intervention by the military"

He begs for legitimacy and though his wishes may have come true, they will hopefully short lived.  The bar for International legitimacy is very low.  Legitimacy at home is a different matter.  Ask Hong Kong policemen.  Once the envy of Asia now despised and having to retire in China.

In short he did nothing except give empty promises and suck-up to the elite.

As for USA looking into the GSP that could also deepen if they don't like him getting into bed with China.

Lipstick on a pig. Still illegitimate PM with the constitution and the all the election apparatus skewed to advantage him.
