For U.S. diplomats, public impeachment hearings could be catharsis and maybe a circus

slowly but surely it's all coming out by bits and pieces, truth will prevail .... " It wasn’t Donald Trump who released the promised military aid to Ukraine, but the State Department, after lawyers determined that the White House freeze on the funds was illegal

Yeah, that was a closely guarded secret!

I was under the impression that the office of POTUS was done by the Electoral College and not by the voters directly.

https://www.clearias.com/election-process-of-us-president/

The US President and Vice President are not elected directly by the people. Instead, they are chosen by “electors” through a process called the “Electoral College”.

The election process of US President can be consolidated into five steps –

Step 1: Primaries and Caucuses,

Step 2: National Conventions, Step

3: Election Campaigning,

Step 4: General Election, and

Step 5: Electoral College.

Semantics. Like the 'popular vote' hair split.

The people got the president they voted for deserved.

Because Presidents have carte-blanche to conduct foreign policy however they like. Even if that means using your own personal attorney to push an agenda that benefits you politically.

Well yes, presidents push agendas that benefit them politically. I'm surprised that you're surprised by this.

But not via private agents working on their behalf - as Giuliani has said he is - rather than on behalf of the US government. And I'm not surprised that this legal nicety has escaped your attention.

BTW, I learned in fifth grade it was the electoral vote that counted.  For years I thought everyone knew.  Guess not.

Rarely, I have to agree with you. "Trump was sly". Very sly but no genius, not even smart !

Trump will not be removed from office and he will be re-elected in 2020.  As Nancy Pelosi once said, you can take that to the bank.

Thank you time traveler. Can you all tell us who's going to win the next World Cup?

I've said it long ago and now I'm repeating myself.  Schiff will not allow the whistle blower to testify because it would be absolutely damning to their sham inquiry.

Any of the so called sharp knives in the drawer here want to comment on why Schiff will not allow his testimony?  And do come up with some plausible reasons.  Schiff's assertion that it's for his protection isn't a plausible explanation but rather Schiff's official excuse.

What is Schiff hiding?

Given that most of the whistleblower's report has already been confirmed, what exactly would be the point of his testifying?

The entire Get Trump effort, including this "impeachment inquiry," is a result of the Trump haters refusing to accept the results of the 2016 election.  Trump won that election fair and square as the Mueller report proved.

Fox and Right wing Myths.

I know no one that doubts he won. Granted he did it by electoral college not popular vote but no one doubts that. That is just one of many things Republicans use to deflect with when confronted with the many insane & illegal activities Trump does everyday. Like what we just saw with Syria. Get a dictator on the phone and he goes belly up. The turks and Russia must love

Sadly, I actually enjoy watching the Republican party defend him. They smear themselves with tar which will take decades to clean out. I doubt they will try. It's their true inner nature revealed for all to see.

Games on need popcorn
