The writer is completely wrong to suggest there has been a cut in UK state pensions. It may be that an additional carers allowance has been cut for him, not the same thing. The post is unwarranted scaremongering.

Not sure it is scaremongering because there will be 80 year olds relaxing in LOS who did not know that a third of their income is soon to be in the bin, it will come as quite a shock, I think...????

There are no Senior Citizens returning to the UK to NOTHING unless they left nothing behind

A lot have left NOTHING behind, and burnt all their bridges, so to say NO followed by, unless is an oxymoron.

The problem is many left nothing behind, they burned their bridges.

A fellow I knew returned to the UK with a cancer scare. He'd burned his bridges. He was 67.

He was sent to different hostels each day in London which he had to vacate each morning by 9am He was not allowed admittance again till 8pm that evening. He had to walk the streets each day time or sit in libraries, pubs and cafes.

He was offered no 'free' treatment, no housing nor welfare benefits. He was already in receipt of a state pension which he'd paid in for all his working life.

He went to a hospital and they told him to come back in 10 days time. It was in the middle of winter 2017. He despaired and returned to Pattaya. He slipped off the radar about 3 months later and no one in the UK nor Thailand has seen nor heard from him since. We believe he's now passed away.

GPs and Hospitals will never refuse treatment to anyone...it goes against their oath and they have all flatly refused to ask any patient for proof of citizenship or rights to free health care....hence why the INHS is in such a mess

Very true but it's not the reason the NHS is in such a mess. 10 years of underfunding and mismanagement by Tory governments is a lot nearer the truth.

How did they find out? Even when you live abroad you can be technically resident according to the IR if you have 'ties' to the UK such as bank accounts,   properties,  a home address classified as your primary address even if you rent it out. You do mot have citizenship in Thailand, a proveable permanent address etc etc. Its moot.

They found out through returned mail, i do not have a permanent address in the UK but have two UK bank accounts carried over from when i lived there!, i don't think they would except bank accounts for resident purposes!

You need a UK address. Doesn't have to be yours. Mine's a friend's. He forwards my mail to me. Also nesessary for bank accounts and keeping registered with a doctor. Know others that use family member's addresses, ex wives, adult children etc.

On the contrary.  UK state pensions have just been increased by about 3% or 40 pounds a year.

That 'have just' was last April, as it is every April.

They should know i've had two letters so far, stating my pension with support for a wife will stop in April 2020 ie. £65 a week!

Yes, and before the letters "most" knew nothing about it...

No mention of up-rating ex pats pensions in all the election promises by any party that I have seen. Comrade Corbyn is promising to spend billions on free broadband though!

What does that post actually say as opposed to what someone may wish to interpret it as saying?

Google NHS hospital waiting lists.

Regardless of oaths the NHS claim It can take as long as two weeks for a patient to be seen by a specialist if a complaint is considered an emergency. That's if said patient has been referred by his General Practitioner. The fellow I referred to was no longer registered with a GP.

The NHS is widely regarded as being in a state of chaos especially in over crowded London where this unfortunate chap tried to get seen.

I think that to 99% of TV posters it says, "keyboard warrior". What does it say to you? 555

Entirely due to 10 years of under investment and poor management by successive Tory governments.

Vote Labour and watch it being turned round.

Be that as it may but the fellow I mentioned could not get an appointment with a consultant so gave up and went back to Thailand where it's suspected that he died.

He had little money and no insurance which was his decision but it could serve as a warning to others like him who return to the UK expecting to treated in a manner that the sixth richest nation in the advanced world could reasonably be expected to treat its elderly native citizens.

Yep. A tragedy that we have had a Tory government for the last 10 years. A totally different NHS before that.

The war time propaganda poster you quote ( not a war time hero) was part of a set of war time posters. One was about your kind of loose talk. 'Spreading alarm and despondency'. I reiterate: IR rules define residency in a number of ways. I complete an SA form every year and explain my full circumstances. Despite living most of the time in Thailand I have sufficient ties to the UK to be classified as resident.

In Sweden it was 'En svensk tiger!' Which can be both A Swedish Tiger, or A Swede Keeps Mum!
Seems to have been quite effective in making people aware that loose talk can kill!

Give him a break Tranny....... he read a headline, immediately realised that as he was single (and living in the UK) it had no relevance to him......... but he still chose to utilise his time by posting on the thread ????

We are not 'above' anybody. But under the IR rules developed in the last few years to as ascertain residence there are a multitude of variables which define you as UK resident even if you do not always live in the UK.

That is correct.  According to the rules of both HMRC and the social services, I am normally resident in the UK.  I ensure that I make the qualifying time in the UK and maintain my prime residence in the UK. I'm not a prisoner of the UK , I am entitled to travel around the world and to have extended periods out of my home country, as indeed I do, as do thousands of others, such as year long cruise ship passengers, or people travelling the world in their retirement.  These pontificating people on TVF, who talk of me, and others "cheating the system",  are ignorant of the rules of residency, for either tax purposes or citizenship. I am abiding by the rules.  The fact that the Thai visa system does not allow 'permanent residency' ( a wholly separate process to obtaining a visa) is just a plus.
