The Criminal Court for Corruption Cases has rejected a request, from the Department of Special Investigation, to withdraw the bail of former Kaeng Krachan park chief Chaiwat Limlikhit-akson and three other suspects, allegedly involved in the murder of Karen community rights activist Porlajee “Billy” Rakchongcharoen about five years ago.

In the request, DSI officials told the court that Mr. Chaiwat, who was recently transferred to assist in suppression of illegal logging in Pattani province, had given interviews to the media on different occasions, accusing the DSI of falsifying evidence against the four suspects.

Chaiwat also reportedly said the four would visit Kaeng Krachan national park, to make a vow to the spirits there, in a way which might cause confusion among some potential prosecution witnesses.

Making a vow to the spirits also confuses me...

Does this mean they will get drunk on spirits, or practice some kind of naked black magic ritual?

Then again, as Thais do, they might tie a ribbon 'round the old oak tree...

Nah.... it means offering a "wai" to the spirits and if you don't get struck immediately by lightening you must be innocent.... and if you believe that you must be barmy!

And this is one of the thousands of reasons Thailand is and always will be 3rd world. Officials not being prosicuted with a mountain of evidence and then when poor Billy's body turns up in an oil drum are charged and let out on bail. Sorry not murder but government assassination of one of their own. This whole thing makes me so angry.
