A forestry official was shot and killed in broad daylight, in Muang district of Thailand’s restive southern province of Yala, by suspected insurgents as he was riding home on a motorcycle at about noon today.

The victim, 52-year old Mr. Kowit Wangthaveesak, a forestry specialist and chief of the Chulabhorn 7 project in Tharnto district, was shot in the chest by a motorcycle pillion rider in a housing estate in Tambon Sateng.  He was rushed to the district hospital by witnesses, but was pronounced dead shortly afterward.

Police said they are investigating the motive for the murder and are in possession of footage, from a CCTV system in the area, which shows the two suspects on a motorcycle.

...why for goodness sake don't the Army get down there in force, make a permanent base, build a wall and do something about this terrible scourge!

You were a brave man Mr. Kowit Wangthaveesak for being there in the first place. RIP.

  • The project houses the Sakai people or they like to be called "Orang Asli" (Marayan language) that means "The people who were here first" living near the boarder of Malaysia and Southern Thailand; Naratiwat, Yala, Satun and Patalung. https://www.facebook.com/MISSGRANDINTERNATIONAL/posts/visiting-chulabhorn-pattana-7-project-situated-near-bang-lang-dam-bannang-sata-d/1778535172169471/

As the project appears to be named after a princess of Thailand, there might be some political stress between the chief and the Malay Muslim insurgency fighting for ethnic autonomy.

Funny how muslims always have to turn to guns and violence to get what they want ?

Good observation... a. they're of limited capabilities to achieve their goals in any other ways or civilised means, b. they know that guns put the fear of god in people, c. in their culture, disagreements and different opinions always settled with the gun or bombs especially when i comes to non believers or 'Kuffars'...
