An Israeli man who was fined 2,000 baht for littering has made a complaint to Pattaya police regarding the incident.

The man was fined after leaving a bottle on the floor near on Walking Street at 4am on Saturday morning.

After he left the bottle, the man was approached by five men in uniform, who he said looked like police officers and demanded to see his passport.

The man reluctantly paid the fine but then immediately went to Pattaya Police Station on Soi 9 to report the incident, fearing that the was the victim of a scam and that the uniformed men who approached him were not be genuine police officers.

After speaking with police it was discovered the uniformed men were from Pattaya’s Special Affairs Sub Division, whose brief is to target anti social behavior, particularly littering around Walking Street, Bali Hai Pier and along Pattaya Beach Road.

Despite being informed the men were working legitimately, the Isreali man continued to protest the fine claiming that it was unfair that he had to pay a fine when lots of other people were littering and leaving bottles on the sidewalk.

He also said that there should be more signs warning people about the fines for littering.

He then said that he was not issued a receipt for his fine, however, the officers said that he was issued with a receipt but threw it away angrily.

Police finally sent the Israeli man on his way after reviewing CCTV of the incident which backed corroborated the version of events as told by the Sub Division officers.

Thais are the worst at just leaving rubbish on the pavement. They really need a massive advertising campaign and more bins

Whilst great fun to shake a stick at the Israeli. I recall It was almost ten years back the plain clothes whatevers had an old aussie couple up against the rail out by MBK, siam square. They were scared too. The crime; dropping a ciggie butt, of course no ashtrays up on the walkover. The undercover squad hovered about seeing if a crime would be committed then pounce, extort. Behavior like this is why western tourists are not coming back to Thailand. High Baht sure, but years a scamming takes a toll.

'more bins'? I don't live in Pattaya, but are there any bins - apart from the ones 7 Eleven provide outside their own shops? Or is Pattaya different from the rest of Thailand?

Yet more examples of selective harassment of tourists, probably adjacent to the complaints that Boo-Hoo tourists no come. How many times have I had to take / pick up an empty, or half full drink container from my wall or in front of my home and dispose of it. Right next to the bloody bin. Sometimes they even balance the damned thing on top of the bin!

Get these racist goons off the street.

There are many along the length of Beach Rd, although perhaps a balancing act to get anything in there.

Mate when you're the last tourist in Pattaya you need to be more aware of what you are doing.  Pickings are slim at the moment.  Oh and don't forget to turn the lights off when you leave.

Because they take care of their brothers and sisters, they don't think of the further damage they are causing to the tourism industry, not their problem, have a job to do and will target farangs because they will pay.

The above said, I have no sympathy for the guy, he should have known better, would he do it back in his own country, I don't know, but I am sure they would have fines in place for such littering.

In Bangla Road, Phuket you would just throw it on top of the large black pile of garbage bags, sure Pattaya has a place similar, all $hit holes.

I agree with you on 2 out of 3 points.

1) Thais are bad at garbage disposal.

2) More bins are needed.

3) Can't see the need for "a massive advertising campaign". We all know better, especially us from western countries.

I view the Israeli as being grossly negligent. I, and I bet many others, have carried my refuse all the way back to my accommodation if there was nowhere to dispose of it (most often the case).

Check them out at the skybridge near MBK. The moment a foreigner lights a cigarette, they will follow him her in stealth mode. Total scam.

I feel like he is a victim, 2000 baht is huge.

Over reaction. He put his bottle down, quite likely near to a few others and many of those plastic drinks containers with a bubble on the top. I even recall a post here on TV condoning the idea of leaving bottles, cans etc on the ground as scavengers often come by to pick them up.

Driving no license 500 baht.

Driving no rego 500 baht

Throw away a couch in the middle of the street 2000 baht and then

leave a bottle and it’s 2000

That's how little piles of garbage become BIG piles of garbage.

If to be a copy-cat, I'd rather see people copy those who take responsibility for their own garbage.

It's yours, take it with you if no garbage bin available. Be a good guest.

That's indeed a good idea - if you put them in a garbage bin. Such collectors look there. But the don't search for garbage everywhere on the beach.

I'm not against fines for the litterers, but i'm definitely against this selective enforcement of the law.

Make fines 100 B. for foreigners and Thais alike, improve your reputation and enjoy a cleaner landscape.

If there is a law of karma, Thailand will have to pay a price for not being fair to foreign visitors.

What a cry baby. Suck it up buttercup, you are wrong.

They don't think.  Greed has killed all their brain cells.  Why doesn't someone who can write Thai, send a letter to the town hall, explaining that every time a Pattaya cop singles out a farang for specialist treatment (check out roadside banditry) this action deters a score of others from ever visiting.

there are bins along beach road

I thought the shops were not allowed to sell alcohol after 11pm. No doubt the poor <deleted> had been walking around for 5 hours trying to find a bin to deposit the empty bottle in and finally gave up.

Farang should know better, Thais seem to not hence why an advertising campaign over many years may get through to them like it did with us farang over many years
