I've been reading with interest JaiYen17's post concerning her visa problems (see here for full thread).

I am due to arrive in BKK in less than two weeks. I entered LOS during the following dates and stayed for the indicated number of days:

16/Oct/06 ------ 12 days

23/Dec/06 ------ 13 days

09/Mar/07 ------ 7 days

Will I have any trouble entering LOS when I arrive April 12? I am a US citizen and I will be staying for less than 7 days. If the consensus is that I will have problems, what alternatives do I have? Is it possible to get a tourist visa with such short notice?

Yes you can get a visa in a week by mail or a day in person and would highly recommend doing so after the recent experience posted here as at least some seem to believe your personal six month period started on 16 Oct so any entry prior to that date six months later only gets a permitted to stay stamp for the days remaining (three or four in your case) between you entry (12 April) and the end of six month period (15 April).

Good point LOP, I hadn't thought of it that way but it does seem that some immi officers are applying the rule in this way :o

While many of us assumed that there would be personal rolling 6 month periods, a couple of recent incidents seem to indicate otherwise. Some immigration offices seem to be dividing the year into two periods 1/10/06 - 4/4/07? and saying that you can have 90 days within either of those periods!

If this is indeed how they are going to interpret the rule, then it would be possible to have 6 back to back Visa Exempt entries, if you timed them correctly!

Anyhow, the other post I made before is correct: At Suvarnboom Airport (BKK), there are (immigration) signs that state that those entering the Kingdom on a 30-day stamp cannot exceed more than 90 days during a 6 month period (which is approximately 180 days).

For further reference, here's a copy of the statement from the Thai Consulate in L.A:

Passport holders from the countries below [the US is one of them]can visit Thailand without a visa for the maximum of 30 days stay per entry with a total peroid of stay not exceeding 90 days within 6 months from the date of first entry into the kingdom. To enter the kingdom using 30-DAY STAY WITHOUT VISA again, this can be done after the first 6 months ( from the first date you enter thailand).

Since my "total period" has not exceeded, nor will come close, to the 90 days, I think I will be fine entering the Kingdom. Besides, I have no choice but to arrive without a visa since my trip will take place in about 10 days.

Btw, B&B, if you have nothing constructive to add, then it is perhaps YOU that should be concerned of being a useless d*ck.

Here is gumball's wonderful helpful understanding post in another thread

"At BKK (Suvanaboom?) there are signs that clearly state that no tourist must exceed 90 days in 6 months (180 days). I don't quite understand what is so difficult to understand here. Perhaps some "special" tourist feel that they are entitled to something more?

If you have more than 90 days in 6 months, just spend the remaining period until the 6 months are up someplace else. Jesus, how hard can that be, unless you are running away from something."

now he's got the nerve to request help on the same topic and calls others responses "unconstructive"

I hope you have loads of problems on your entry and may everyone else have none

Based on the rule you will be given a entry stamp up to 15th of April 07 , which is the end of your 6 month period .

16th of October to 15th of April.

A new six month period , which will give you a new entry of 30 days , will start on 16th of April 07.

Try to get a Tourist Visa , you might also be lucky as sometimes the Airport Immigration is extreme busy and will stamp you 30days , but do not count on that.

Good luck.

I just returned from LOS today, and I thought it would help (maybe confuse) others of my recent arrival experience into Suvarnaboom (BKK) from the US.

Upon my arrival into BKK this past Thursday, April 12, I was given a 30-day stamp on arrival, even though I have already been issued 3 such stamps in the past (see my OP above). I did not have to present any documents (i.e. tickets or itinerary) of my scheduled outbound flight. Presumably the airline already performed this check.

I still believe that the 90 days of stay within 6 month period still apply, because that is what is posted on two Thai consulate websites I visited (L.A. consulate and Vancouver, B.C. consulate), as opposed to the notion that 3 entry stamps = 90 days.

Anyhow, your experience may vary. I for one am glad that I am back home and that on this particular journey I was able to bring my wife and daughter back with me. Thank Buddha I will not have to travel to LOS for another year.
