Popular Post Jaxxper
History taught in Thai schools is Thai history. My daughter is on a school exchange for a year to the US, and guess what.....they only teach US history there. I can understand how Thais don’t comprehend the significance of the holocaust to other nationalities. Not saying it’s right just saying I understand it.

I think that the Thais do know about Pol Pot, like from the stories from the Hundreds of Thousands of Refugees from his Regime, that came over the border in the late 70's and had to live here for several Years i think. .... Pol Pot went to School in Paris you Know ... a Good Old leftie Boy Right ??? ... (As well as Kunming in southern China) .. So he was not really much like the Nazies, other then liking to put his enemies like a large proportion of his Population in to Concentration Camps. Like as a Good Khmre Motor cycle Taxi Rider actually stooped his Bike indignantly, .. to tell me once ..... Pol Pot was a "Maoist" !!! ... and you got to say this with an expression that you know that you are talking about Murderers on you face here, ... And he was Not a Nazi. ... (Or a Marxist Either, ... He was a "Maoist" ... )

There are still a lot about that (quietly) idolize the Fuhrer, and can't bear to see what has now happened to their once great empire under the Left Wing Fanatics that are currently in control. 2 1

Popular Post DefaultName
At what stage does history stop being offensive and start becoming just....... history? Cold War - OK. Nazi's - not yet. American civil war - maybe. Wars of the Roses - OK. Scotland v England - OK unless there's a football match. Crusaders - fine. Romans v well, everybody really - OK. I'm a Brit, so this is pretty much Brit oriented (+ some Hollywood), I'm sure other nationalities have their own examples. For a lot of the world, these haven't got any significance at all, so is there really an issue here?

True. Another feature of the Thai education system. The higher-ups don't want Thais to know how much they've been exploited for decades (perhaps centuries), so most things outside Thailand are not reported. Thais are not good at geography or history. The 2nd World War is also not reported, lest the population should discover that Thailand collaborated with the Japanese and found themselves on the wrong side, a diplomatic master stroke not. Indeed, GB wanted Thailand to pay war reparations but the USA vetoed that (it wanted to retain a secure footprint in SE Asia for itself). Something alse the world has to thank the USA for. Not. So when Thais don SS or Army uniforms, they do so out of a lamentable ignorance, not a lamentable malice (although Buddhists tend to look down on other religions, and it isn't just in Thailand. The Israelis know all this of course, but it's one more reason to remind the world that they suffered the holocaust and that therefore the world owes them. Gerald Smith
Just recently noticed a storefront in central Pattaya with a swastika decal on their entry door! Needless to say I was quite shocked by such shocking ignorance and would never ever enter any store with such stupidity or hatred displayed publicly.

They have no idea about any wars except for memorizing dates. Hell if you ask most Thais why kanchanburi is an important place and why so many Brits and Aussies go there they say the river and have no idea what happened. I have 2 university students that are very knowledgeable but were never taught any of the history of Thaliana in WW2
