Japan and Schengen visa with Elite visa

Featured Replies

Hello! Could somebody confirm or disprove that getting Japan and Schengen visa is impossible with Elite visa in Thailand (because it counts as tourist visa)?

For example, for Japan visa from Embassy of Japan site:

  1. Thai visa (Non-immigrant O, F, ED etc., rather than Tourist Visa) in your passport
  2. Thai re-entry permit valid for more than 3 months from the date of your application for a Japanese visa.
  3. Thai work permit (for business people) or certificate of enrolment from your school in Thailand (for students)

Elite visa is not even listed here.

Yes, I mean I can't apply for those visas being on Elita visa in Thailand. Will call Japan Embassy after holidays to check.

I don't understand the question. For Schengen visa applied for by regular applicants the rule is: you can apply from any country if you are a legal resident there. So say a Cambodian living in Thailand legally could apply from Thailand. Basically if you are not a tourist tib Thailand then you can apply from the relevant Schengen embassy.

And yes special rules apply for certain categories such as emergencies, diplomats and family members of EU/EEA citizens. But I won't bother you with those details unless you think you belong in such a category.

Question is: do Elite visa counts as Tourist visa, or as long stay resident visa?
